Psalms 147

Our Amazing God
1Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
How beautiful it is when we sing our praises to the beautiful God,
for praise makes you lovely before him
and brings him great delight!
2Yahweh builds up Jerusalem;
he gathers up the outcasts and brings them home.
3He heals the wounds of every shattered heart.
4He sets his stars in place, calling them all by their names. # 147:4 See Job 9:9; 38:31–33; Isa. 40:26; Amos 5:8.
5How great is our God!
There’s absolutely nothing his power cannot accomplish,
and he has infinite understanding of everything.
6Yahweh supports and strengthens the humble,
but the ungodly will be brought down to the dust.
7Sing out with songs of thanksgiving to the Lord!
Let’s sing our praises with melodies overflowing!
8He fills the sky with clouds, sending showers to water the earth
so that the grass springs up on the mountain fields
and the earth produces food for man. # 147:8 As translated from the Septuagint.
9All the birds and beasts who cry with hunger to him
are fed from his hands.
10His people don’t find security in strong horses,
for horsepower is nothing to him.
Manpower is even less impressive!
11Yahweh shows favor to # 147:11 Or “takes pleasure in,” “delights in,” “sets his affection on,” “enjoys,” “finds pleasing,” “is satisfied with.” those who fear him,
those who wait for his tender embrace. # 147:11 Or “who wait for his loyal, unfailing love.”
12Jerusalem, praise the Lord! Zion, worship your God!
13For he has strengthened the authority of your gates.
He even blesses you with more children.
14He’s the one who brings peace to your borders, # 147:14 The Septuagint reads “He makes peace your borders.”
feeding you the most excellent of fare.
15He sends out his orders throughout the world;
his words run as swift messengers, bringing them to pass.
16He blankets the earth with glistening snow,
painting the landscape with frost.
17Sleet and hail fall from the sky,
causing waters to freeze before winter’s icy blast.
18Then he speaks his word and it all melts away;
as the warm spring winds blow, the streams begin to flow.
19In the same way, he speaks his word to Jacob,
and to Israel he brings his life-giving instruction.
20He has dealt with Israel differently than with any other people,
for they have received his laws.
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

1Praise ye Hashem: for it is tov to sing praises unto Eloheinu; for it is na'im (pleasant); and tehillah is fitting.
2 Hashem is the Boneh Yerushalayim (builder of Jerusalem): He gathereth together the nidkhei Yisroel (the outcasts Of Israel, those of the Golus).
3He is the Rofeh (healer) of the Shevurei-lev (broken in heart), binds up their wounds.
4He determines the mispar of the kokhavim; He calleth them all by their shemot.
5Gadol is Adoneinu, and of rav ko'ach; to His tevunah (understanding, intelligence) there is no mispar (number, limit).
6 Hashem lifteth up the anavim (meek ones, humble ones); He casteth the resha'im down to the ground.
7Sing unto Hashem with todah; make music upon the kinnor (harp) unto Eloheinu:
8Who covereth Shomayim with clouds, Who prepareth matar (rainfall) for ha'aretz, HaMatzemi'ach (Who maketh to spring up) the khatzir (grass) upon the harim (hills, mountains).
9He giveth to the behemah her lechem, and to the bnei orev (young ravens) when they cry out.
10He delighteth not in the gevurat hasus: He taketh not pleasure in the shokayim of an ish (legs of a man).
11 Hashem taketh pleasure in them that fear Him, in those that hope in His chesed.
12Praise Hashem, O Yerushalayim; praise thy G-d, O Tziyon.
13For He hath strengthened the bars of thy she'arim (gates); He hath blessed thy banim within thee.
14He granteth shalom within thy borders, and filleth thee with the chelev chittim (the finest of wheat).
15He sendeth forth His imrah (command) upon eretz: His Devar runneth swiftly.
16He giveth sheleg (snow) like tzemer (wool); He scattereth the kfor (frost) like ashes.
17He casteth down His kerach (ice) like crumbs: who can stand before His cold?
18He sendeth out His Devar, and melteth them: He causeth His ruach to blow, and the mayim to flow.
19He declareth His Devar unto Ya'akov, His chukkot and His mishpatim unto Yisroel.
20He hath not dealt so with any Goy (nation): and as for His mishpatim, they have not known them. Praise ye Hashem. Praise Hashem.
