Psalms 147
147
Our Amazing God
1Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
How beautiful it is when we sing our praises to the beautiful God,
for praise makes you lovely before him
and brings him great delight!
2Yahweh builds up Jerusalem;
he gathers up the outcasts and brings them home.
3He heals the wounds of every shattered heart.
4He sets his stars in place, calling them all by their names. # 147:4 See Job 9:9; 38:31–33; Isa. 40:26; Amos 5:8.
5How great is our God!
There’s absolutely nothing his power cannot accomplish,
and he has infinite understanding of everything.
6Yahweh supports and strengthens the humble,
but the ungodly will be brought down to the dust.
7Sing out with songs of thanksgiving to the Lord!
Let’s sing our praises with melodies overflowing!
8He fills the sky with clouds, sending showers to water the earth
so that the grass springs up on the mountain fields
and the earth produces food for man. # 147:8 As translated from the Septuagint.
9All the birds and beasts who cry with hunger to him
are fed from his hands.
10His people don’t find security in strong horses,
for horsepower is nothing to him.
Manpower is even less impressive!
11Yahweh shows favor to # 147:11 Or “takes pleasure in,” “delights in,” “sets his affection on,” “enjoys,” “finds pleasing,” “is satisfied with.” those who fear him,
those who wait for his tender embrace. # 147:11 Or “who wait for his loyal, unfailing love.”
12Jerusalem, praise the Lord! Zion, worship your God!
13For he has strengthened the authority of your gates.
He even blesses you with more children.
14He’s the one who brings peace to your borders, # 147:14 The Septuagint reads “He makes peace your borders.”
feeding you the most excellent of fare.
15He sends out his orders throughout the world;
his words run as swift messengers, bringing them to pass.
16He blankets the earth with glistening snow,
painting the landscape with frost.
17Sleet and hail fall from the sky,
causing waters to freeze before winter’s icy blast.
18Then he speaks his word and it all melts away;
as the warm spring winds blow, the streams begin to flow.
19In the same way, he speaks his word to Jacob,
and to Israel he brings his life-giving instruction.
20He has dealt with Israel differently than with any other people,
for they have received his laws.
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

Psalm 147
1Praise the LORD!
Because it is good to sing praise to our God!
Because it is a pleasure to make beautiful praise!
2The LORD rebuilds Jerusalem, gathering up Israel’s exiles.
3God heals the brokenhearted
and bandages their wounds.
4God counts the stars by number,
giving each one a name.
5Our Lord is great and so strong!
God’s knowledge can’t be grasped!
6The LORD helps the poor,
but throws the wicked down on the dirt!
7Sing to the LORD with thanks;
sing praises to our God with a lyre!
8God covers the skies with clouds;
God makes rain for the earth;
God makes the mountains sprout green grass.
9God gives food to the animals—
even to the baby ravens when they cry out.
10God doesn’t prize the strength of a horse;
God doesn’t treasure the legs of a runner.
11No. The LORD treasures the people
who honor him,
the people who wait for his faithful love.
12Worship the LORD, Jerusalem!
Praise your God, Zion!
13Because God secures the bars on your gates,
God blesses the children you have there.
14God establishes your borders peacefully.
God fills you full with the very best wheat.
15God issues his command to the earth—
God’s word speeds off fast!
16God spreads snow like it was wool;
God scatters frost like it was ashes;
17God throws his hail down like crumbs—
who can endure God’s freezing cold?
18Then God issues his word and melts it all away!
God makes his winds blow;
the water flows again.
19God proclaims his word to Jacob;
his statutes and rules to Israel.
20God hasn’t done that with any other nation;
those nations have no knowledge of God’s rules.#147.20 LXX, Tg, DSS (11QPsa) God hasn’t let those nations know his rules.
Praise the LORD!
