Psalms 147
147
Our Amazing God
1Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
How beautiful it is when we sing our praises to the beautiful God,
for praise makes you lovely before him
and brings him great delight!
2Yahweh builds up Jerusalem;
he gathers up the outcasts and brings them home.
3He heals the wounds of every shattered heart.
4He sets his stars in place, calling them all by their names. # 147:4 See Job 9:9; 38:31–33; Isa. 40:26; Amos 5:8.
5How great is our God!
There’s absolutely nothing his power cannot accomplish,
and he has infinite understanding of everything.
6Yahweh supports and strengthens the humble,
but the ungodly will be brought down to the dust.
7Sing out with songs of thanksgiving to the Lord!
Let’s sing our praises with melodies overflowing!
8He fills the sky with clouds, sending showers to water the earth
so that the grass springs up on the mountain fields
and the earth produces food for man. # 147:8 As translated from the Septuagint.
9All the birds and beasts who cry with hunger to him
are fed from his hands.
10His people don’t find security in strong horses,
for horsepower is nothing to him.
Manpower is even less impressive!
11Yahweh shows favor to # 147:11 Or “takes pleasure in,” “delights in,” “sets his affection on,” “enjoys,” “finds pleasing,” “is satisfied with.” those who fear him,
those who wait for his tender embrace. # 147:11 Or “who wait for his loyal, unfailing love.”
12Jerusalem, praise the Lord! Zion, worship your God!
13For he has strengthened the authority of your gates.
He even blesses you with more children.
14He’s the one who brings peace to your borders, # 147:14 The Septuagint reads “He makes peace your borders.”
feeding you the most excellent of fare.
15He sends out his orders throughout the world;
his words run as swift messengers, bringing them to pass.
16He blankets the earth with glistening snow,
painting the landscape with frost.
17Sleet and hail fall from the sky,
causing waters to freeze before winter’s icy blast.
18Then he speaks his word and it all melts away;
as the warm spring winds blow, the streams begin to flow.
19In the same way, he speaks his word to Jacob,
and to Israel he brings his life-giving instruction.
20He has dealt with Israel differently than with any other people,
for they have received his laws.
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

1Praise ye the Lord, for it is good to sing vnto our God: for it is a pleasant thing, and praise is comely. 2The Lord doth builde vp Ierusalem, and gather together the dispersed of Israel. 3He healeth those that are broken in heart, and bindeth vp their sores. 4He counteth the nomber of the starres, and calleth them all by their names. 5Great is our Lord, and great is his power: his wisdome is infinite. 6The Lord relieueth the meeke, and abaseth the wicked to the ground. 7Sing vnto the Lord with prayse: sing vpon the harpe vnto our God, 8Which couereth the heauen with cloudes, and prepareth raine for the earth, and maketh the grasse to growe vpon the mountaines: 9Which giueth to beasts their foode, and to the yong rauens that crie. 10He hath not pleasure in the strength of an horse, neither delighteth he in the legs of man. 11But the Lord deliteth in them that feare him, and attende vpon his mercie. 12Prayse the Lord, O Ierusalem: prayse thy God, O Zion. 13For he hath made the barres of thy gates strong, and hath blessed thy children within thee. 14He setteth peace in thy borders, and satisfieth thee with the floure of wheate. 15He sendeth foorth his commandement vpon earth, and his worde runneth very swiftly. 16He giueth snowe like wooll, and scattereth the hoare frost like ashes. 17He casteth foorth his yce like morsels: who can abide the colde thereof? 18He sendeth his worde and melteth them: he causeth his winde to blowe, and the waters flowe. 19He sheweth his word vnto Iaakob, his statutes and his iudgements vnto Israel. 20He hath not dealt so with euery nation, neither haue they knowen his iudgements. Prayse ye the Lord.
