Psalms 143

My Humble Prayer
King David’s poetic song when he was chased by Absalom # 143 As translated from the Septuagint.
1Lord, you must hear my prayer,
for you are faithful to your promises.
Answer my cry, O righteous God!
2Don’t bring me into your courtroom for judgment,
for there is no one who is righteous before you.
3My enemies have chased and caught me
and crushed my life into dust.
Now I’m living in the darkness of death’s shadow.
4My inner being is in depression
and my heart is heavy, dazed with despair.
5I remember the glorious miracles of days gone by,
and I often think of all the wonders of old.
6Now I’m reaching out to you, thirsting for you
like the dry, cracked ground thirsts for rain.
Pause in his presence
7Lord, come quickly and answer me,
for my depression deepens and I’m about to give up.
Don’t leave me now or I’ll die!
8Let the dawning day bring me revelation
of your tender, unfailing love.
Give me light for my path and teach me, for I trust in you.
9Save me from all my enemies, for I hide myself in you.
10I just want to obey all you ask of me.
So teach me, Lord, for you are my God.
Your gracious Spirit is all I need, so lead me on good paths
that are pleasing to you, my one and only God!
11Lord, if you rescue me, it will bring you more glory,
for you are true to your promises.
Bring me out of these troubles!
12Since I am your loving servant, destroy all those
who are trying to harm me.
And because you are so loving and kind to me,
silence all of my enemies!

PSALM 143
1 The psalm of David. Lord, hear thou my prayer, with ears perceive thou my beseeching; in thy truth hear thou me, in thy rightwiseness.
2And enter thou not into doom with thy servant; for each man living shall not be made just [or justified] in thy sight.
3For the enemy pursued my soul; he made low my life in [the] earth. He hath set me in dark places, as the dead men of the world,
4and my spirit was anguished on me; mine heart was troubled in me.
5I was mindful of eld [or old] days, I bethought in all thy works; I be-thought in the deeds of thine hands.
6I held forth mine hands to thee; my soul was as earth without water to thee.
7Lord, hear thou me swiftly; my spirit failed. Turn thou not away thy face from me; and I shall be like them that go down into the pit.
8Make thou early thy mercy heard to me; for I hoped in thee. Make thou known to me the way in which I shall go; for I raised my soul to thee.
9Deliver thou me from mine enemies; Lord, I fled to thee;
10teach thou me to do thy will, for thou art my God. Thy good spirit shall lead me forth into a rightful [or right] land;
11Lord, for thy name thou shalt quicken me in thine equity. Thou shalt lead my soul out of tribulation;
12and in thy mercy thou shalt scatter mine enemies. And thou shalt lose all them, that trouble my soul; for I am thy servant.
