Psalms 130
130
Out of the Depths
A song of the stairway
1Lord, I cry out to you out of the depths of my despair!
2Hear my voice, O God!
Answer this prayer and hear my plea for mercy.
3Lord, if you measured us and marked us with our sins,
who would ever have their prayers answered?
4But your forgiving love is what makes you so wonderful.
No wonder you are loved and worshiped!
5This is why I wait upon you, expecting your breakthrough,
for your Word brings me hope.
6I long for you more than any watchman
would long for the morning light.
I will watch and wait for you, O God,
throughout the night.
7O Israel, keep hoping, keep trusting,
and keep waiting on the Lord,
for he is tenderhearted, kind, and forgiving.
He has a thousand ways to set you free!
8He himself will redeem you;
he will ransom you from the cruel slavery of your sins!

A song for pilgrims going up to Jerusalem.
1Lord, I cry out to you from the depths of my pain.#130:1 “Of my pain”: implied.
2Please listen to my cry, and pay attention to what I'm asking.
3Lord, if you kept a list of sins, who could escape being condemned?
4But you are forgiving so that we might respect you.
5I'm waiting for the Lord, longingly waiting, for I trust in his word.
6I long for the Lord to come, more than watchmen longing for the dawn to come, more than watchmen longing for the dawn to come.
7Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for the Lord loves us with a trustworthy love and his salvation knows no limits.
8He will save Israel from every sin.
