Psalms 124
124
Victory
A song of the stairway by King David
1What if God had not been on our side? Let all Israel admit this!
2-3What if God had not been there for us?
Our enemies, in their violent anger,
would have swallowed us up alive!
4-5The nations, with their flood of rage, would have swept us away,
and we would have drowned
and perished beneath their torrent of terror!
6We can praise God over and over that he never left us!
God wouldn’t allow the terror of our enemies to defeat us.
7We are free from the hunter’s trap;
their snare is broken and we have escaped!
8For the same God who made everything,
our Creator and our mighty maker,
he himself is our helper and defender!

Psalm 124
A Song of degrees of David.
1¶ If the Lord had not been for us, now may Israel say,
2If the Lord had not been for us, when men rose up against us,
3then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us;
4then the waters would have overwhelmed us; the flood would have gone over our soul;
5then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.
6¶ Blessed be the Lord, who did not give us as a prey to their teeth.
7Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers; the snare has broken, and we are escaped.
8Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made the heaven and the earth.
