Psalms 122
122
Jerusalem
A song of the stairway by King David # 122 David wrote this song for the people to sing for the feasts. It was sung when the worshipers entered the gates of Jerusalem.
1I was overjoyed when they said,
“Let’s go up to the house of the Lord.”
2And now at last we stand here, inside the very gates of Jerusalem!
3O Jerusalem, you were built as a city of praise,
where God and man mingle together. # 122:3 The Hebrew phrase “a city bound together” is taken from a root word that means “joined, united, coupled.” By inference in the context, it is the city where God dwells and man worships.
4This is where all the tribes of Yahweh are required
to come and worship him.
5This is where the thrones of kings have been established
to rule in righteousness;
even King David ruled from here.
6Pray and seek for Jerusalem’s peace,
for all who love her will prosper!
7O Jerusalem, may there be peace for those
who dwell inside your walls
and prosperity in your every palace.
8I intercede for the sake of my family and friends
who dwell there, that they may all live in peace.
9For the sake of your house, Yahweh our God,
I will seek the welfare and prosperity of Jerusalem.

(Shir HaMa'alot [Song of Ascents], of Dovid)
1I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the Bais Hashem.
2Our feet shall stand within thy she'arim, O Yerushalayim.
3Yerushalayim is built as an Ir bound firmly together;
4That is where the Shevatim (tribes) go up, the Shivtei Hashem, according to the edut l'Yisroel (the statute to Yisroel), to give thanks unto the Shem of Hashem.
5For there are set kise'ot l'mishpat (thrones of judgment), the kise'ot of the Bais Dovid.
6Sha'alu shalom Yerushalayim (pray for the peace of Jerusalem); they shall prosper that love thee.
7Shalom be within thy wall, and security within thy citadels.
8L'ma'an (for the sake of) my achim and companions, I will now say, Shalom be within thee.
9L'ma'an the Bais Hashem Eloheinu I will seek thy tov.
