Psalms 122
122
Jerusalem
A song of the stairway by King David # 122 David wrote this song for the people to sing for the feasts. It was sung when the worshipers entered the gates of Jerusalem.
1I was overjoyed when they said,
“Let’s go up to the house of the Lord.”
2And now at last we stand here, inside the very gates of Jerusalem!
3O Jerusalem, you were built as a city of praise,
where God and man mingle together. # 122:3 The Hebrew phrase “a city bound together” is taken from a root word that means “joined, united, coupled.” By inference in the context, it is the city where God dwells and man worships.
4This is where all the tribes of Yahweh are required
to come and worship him.
5This is where the thrones of kings have been established
to rule in righteousness;
even King David ruled from here.
6Pray and seek for Jerusalem’s peace,
for all who love her will prosper!
7O Jerusalem, may there be peace for those
who dwell inside your walls
and prosperity in your every palace.
8I intercede for the sake of my family and friends
who dwell there, that they may all live in peace.
9For the sake of your house, Yahweh our God,
I will seek the welfare and prosperity of Jerusalem.

A song for pilgrims going up to Jerusalem. A psalm of David.
1I was so happy when they said to me, “Let's go the house of the Lord.”
2Now we're standing inside your gates, Jerusalem!
3Jerusalem is built as a city where people can be together.#122:3. “Where people can be together,” or, “that is closely joined together.”
4All the tribes—the tribes of the Lord—go up there, following the command given to Israel to give thanks to the Lord.
5This is where the thrones are placed, where judgment is given, the thrones of the house of David.
6Pray that Jerusalem may be at peace. May everyone who loves Jerusalem be kept safe.
7May there be peace within your walls, and safety within your fortresses.
8On behalf of my family and friends, I will now say, “May you be at peace.”
9On behalf of the house of the Lord our God, I pray that everything goes well for you.
