Song of Judah’s Triumph
1A day is coming when this song will be sung in the land of Judah:
“The city is a stronghold for us!
The Lord’s salvation, # 26:1 “The Lord’s salvation” is the Hebrew word yĕshuwʿah, almost identical to Yeshua. Jesus is our salvation that saves us and delivers us inside and out. like inner and outer walls,
makes it secure.
2Open the gates and let a righteous,
faith-filled people enter in.
3Perfect, absolute peace surrounds # 26:3 Or “watches over.” those
whose imaginations # 26:3 Or “steadfast minds.” The Hebrew is yêtser. According to the Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon, the Hebrew word yêtser means “imagination” that forms and frames up. Imagination frames up one’s reality. It is unfortunate that many today have rejected the God-created imagination that each of us possesses. Our imagination must be set apart for God and continually made holy. The imagination, both good and evil, is a frequently addressed concept in the Bible. The Hebrew word yêtser is found nine times in the Old Testament (Gen. 6:5; 8:21; Deut. 31:21; 1 Chron. 28:9; 29:18; Ps. 103:14; Isa. 26:3; 29:16; Hab. 2:18). are consumed with you;
they confidently trust in you.
4Yes, trust in the Lord Yahweh forever and ever!
For Yah, the Lord God, is your Rock of Ages! # 26:4 The concept of God being our Rock speaks of the enduring protection, safety, and security we have in him. We plant our feet on the Rock and find boldness and confidence. Throughout every age and season of our lives, God remains our faithful Rock of all Ages.
5He knocks down the high and mighty,
and the lofty city he humbles and levels down to the dust,
6to be trampled down by the feet of the poor and exploited.”
7The path of the righteous is smooth and level;
God, the Just One, you make a clear path for them.
8Yes, we will follow your ways, Lord Yahweh,
and entwine our hearts with yours, # 26:8 The Hebrew word qavah (the root word for “rope”) means “to wait” or “to entwine.” Waiting on God means binding and connecting our hearts to who God is and to his promises. The Hebrew concept of waiting on the Lord is never a passive thing but an active one, full of hope and expectation.
for the fame of your name is all that we desire.
9At night I yearn for you with all my heart;
in the morning my spirit reaches out to you.
When you display your judgments on the earth,
people learn the ways of righteousness.
10But when mercy is shown to scoundrels,
they still aren’t able to learn righteousness.
Even in a land of integrity, they still do wrong,
for they ignore the great majesty of the Lord Yahweh.
11Lord Yahweh, you lift your mighty hand,
but they do not see it.
Let them witness how much you love your people
and be ashamed.
Let the fire reserved for your enemies consume them.
12Lord Yahweh, you will establish peace and prosperity for us,
for all we have accomplished is the result
of what you work through us.
13Lord Yahweh, our God, other lords have ruled over us,
but we praise your name alone.
14Their dead don’t come back to life; their ghosts do not rise.
For you have punished and destroyed them,
wiping out even the memory of them.
15You have made our nation grow!
Lord Yahweh, you have made our nation grow;
you have revealed your glory,
and you have extended all the borders of the land.
16Lord Yahweh, in their distress, they reached out to you.
When you chastened them, they poured out prayer to you.
17Lord Yahweh,
we were like a pregnant woman going into labor pains—
writhing, screaming, and ready to deliver, all because of you.
18We were full term.
We pushed and strained, but we gave birth only to wind!
We accomplished nothing
and have not brought deliverance # 26:18 Or “salvation” or “victory.” into the world, # 26:18 See Rom. 8:19–21.
nor its inhabitants new life. # 26:18 Or “its inhabitants have not fallen out,” an idiom for birthing or bringing to life.
19But your dead will live again!
Their bodies will rise from the dead!
It’s time to awaken and sing for joy, you dwellers in the dust!
As the glistening, radiant dew refreshes the earth, # 26:19 See Ps. 110:3.
so the Lord will awaken those dwelling among the dead.
20Go, my people, into your inner chambers
and close the doors behind you.
Hide for a little while, until his indignation # 26:20 Or “curse.” is over.
21For the Lord is coming out from his heavenly place
to punish people for their sins.
The earth itself will expose the blood spilled upon it,
and the ground will no longer hide its slain.

Song of Trust in God’s Protection
1In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah:
“We have a strong city;
He sets up salvation as walls and ramparts.
2Open the gates, that the righteous nation may enter,
The one that #Lit keeps trustworthiness.remains faithful and trustworthy.
3You will keep in #Lit peace, peace, a Hebrew idiom of emphasis.perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You—in both #The Hebrew word for inclination became a technical term in Jewish tradition, and the rabbis frequently referred to the “evil inclination” much in the same sense as the sin nature. They also recognized a “good inclination,” which the righteous choose to follow, and urged people to make their good inclination king over the evil inclination.inclination and character],
Because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation].
4Trust [confidently] in the Lord forever [He is your fortress, your shield, your banner],
For the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].
5For He has thrown down the [arrogant] ones who dwell on high, the lofty and inaccessible city;
He lays it low, He lays it low to the ground, He hurls it to the dust.
6The foot will trample it,
Even the feet of the suffering, and the steps of the helpless.”
7The way of the righteous [those in right-standing with God—living in moral and spiritual integrity] is smooth and level;
O Upright One, make a level path for the just and righteous.
8Indeed, in the path of Your judgments, O Lord,
We have waited expectantly for You;
Your name, even Your memory, is the desire and deep longing of our souls.
9In the night my soul longs for You [O Lord],
Indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently;
For [only] when Your judgments are experienced on the earth
Will the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.
10 Though the wicked is shown compassion and favor,
He does not learn righteousness;
In the land of uprightness he deals unjustly,
And refuses to see the majesty of the Lord.
11 Though Your hand is lifted up [to strike], O Lord, the wicked do not see it.
Let them see Your zeal for Your people and be put to shame;
Indeed, let the fire reserved for Your enemies consume them.
12Lord, You will establish peace for us,
Since You have also performed for us all that we have done.
13O Lord our God, other masters besides You have ruled over us;
But through You alone we confess Your name.
14The [wicked] dead will not live [again], the spirits of the dead will not rise and return;
Therefore You have punished and destroyed them,
And You have wiped out every memory of them [every trace of them].
15You have increased the nation, O Lord;
You have increased the nation, You are glorified;
You have extended all the borders of the land.
16O Lord, they sought You in distress;
They managed only a prayerful whisper
When Your discipline was upon them.
17As a woman with child approaches the time to give birth,
She is in pain and struggles and cries out in her labor,
So we were before You, O Lord.
18We have been with child, we have twisted and struggled in labor;
We gave birth, as it seems, only to wind.
We could not accomplish salvation for the earth,
Nor were inhabitants of the world #Lit fallen.born.
19Your dead will live;
# So with some ancient versions; MT reads My dead body. Their dead bodies will rise.
You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy!
For your dew is a dew of [celestial] light [heavenly, supernatural],
And the earth will give birth to the spirits of the dead.
20Come, my people, enter your chambers
And shut your doors behind you;
Hide for a little while
Until the [Lord’s] #Lit curse.wrath is past.
21Listen carefully, the Lord is about to come out of His [heavenly] place
To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their wickedness [their sin, their injustice, their wrongdoing];
The earth will reveal the [innocent] blood shed upon her
And will no longer cover her slain.
