PSALM 9
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
To the chief Musician upon Muth-labben,
A Psalm of David.
1Lord, thee I'll praise with all my heart,
thy wonders all proclaim.
2In thee, most High, I'll greatly joy,
and sing unto thy name.
3When back my foes were turn'd, they fell,
and perish'd at thy sight:
4For thou maintain'dst my right and cause;
on throne sat'st judging right.
5The heathen thou rebuked hast,
the wicked overthrown;
Thou hast put out their names, that they
may never more be known.
6O en'my! now destructions have
an end perpetual:
Thou cities raz'd; perish'd with them
is their memorial.
7God shall endure for aye; he doth
for judgment set his throne;
8In righteousness to judge the world,
justice to give each one.
9God also will a refuge be
for those that are oppress'd;
A refuge will he be in times
of trouble to distress'd.
10And they that know thy name, in thee
their confidence will place:
For thou hast not forsaken them
that truly seek thy face.
11O sing ye praises to the Lord,
that dwells in Sion hill;
And all the nations among
his deeds record ye still.
12When he enquireth after blood,
he then rememb'reth them:
The humble folk he not forgets
that call upon his name.
13Lord, pity me; behold the grief
which I from foes sustain;
Ev'n thou, who from the gates of death
dost raise me up again;
14That I, in Sion's daughters' gates,
may all thy praise advance;
And that I may rejoice always
in thy deliverance.
15The heathen are sunk in the pit
which they themselves prepar'd;
And in the net which they have hid
their own feet fast are snar'd.
16The Lord is by the judgment known
which he himself hath wrought:
The sinners' hands do make the snares
wherewith themselves are caught.
17They who are wicked into hell
each one shall turned be;
And all the nations that forget
to seek the Lord most high.
18For they that needy are shall not
forgotten be alway;
The expectation of the poor
shall not be lost for aye.
19Arise, Lord, let not man prevail;
judge heathen in thy sight:
20That they may know themselves but men,
the nations, Lord, affright.

Prayer and Thanksgiving for the Lord’s Righteous Judgments
To the Chief Musician. To the tune of “Death of the Son.” A Psalm of David.
1I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart;
I will tell of all Your marvelous works.
2I will be glad and #Ps. 5:11; 104:34rejoice in You;
I will sing praise to Your name, #(Ps. 83:18; 92:1)O Most High.
3When my enemies turn back,
They shall fall and perish at Your presence.
4For You have maintained my right and my cause;
You sat on the throne judging in righteousness.
5You have rebuked the nations,
You have destroyed the wicked;
You have #Prov. 10:7blotted out their name forever and ever.
6O enemy, destructions are finished forever!
And you have destroyed cities;
Even their memory has #(Ps. 34:16)perished.
7#Ps. 102:12, 26; Heb. 1:11But the Lord shall endure forever;
He has prepared His throne for judgment.
8#(Ps. 96:13; 98:9; Acts 17:31)He shall judge the world in righteousness,
And He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness.
9The Lord also will be a #Ps. 32:7; 46:1; 91:2refuge for the oppressed,
A refuge in times of trouble.
10And those who #Ps. 91:14know Your name will put their trust in You;
For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.
11Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion!
#Ps. 66:16; 107:22Declare His deeds among the people.
12#(Gen. 9:5; Ps. 72:14)When He avenges blood, He remembers them;
He does not forget the cry of the humble.
13Have mercy on me, O Lord!
Consider my trouble from those who hate me,
You who lift me up from the gates of death,
14That I may tell of all Your praise
In the gates of the daughter of Zion.
I will #Ps. 13:5; 20:5; 35:9rejoice in Your salvation.
15#Ps. 7:15, 16The nations have sunk down in the pit which they made;
In the net which they hid, their own foot is caught.
16The Lord is #Ex. 7:5known by the judgment He executes;
The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands.
#Ps. 92:3Meditation.
