PSALM 86
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
A Prayer of David.
1O Lord, do thou bow down thine ear,
and hear me graciously;
Because I sore afflicted am,
and am in poverty.
2Because I'm holy, let my soul
by thee preserved be:
O thou my God, thy servant save,
that puts his trust in thee.
3Sith unto thee I daily cry,
be merciful to me.
4Rejoice thy servant's soul; for, Lord,
I lift my soul to thee.
5For thou art gracious, O Lord,
and ready to forgive;
And rich in mercy, all that call
upon thee to relieve.
6Hear, Lord, my pray'r; unto the voice
of my request attend:
7In troublous times I'll call on thee;
for thou wilt answer send.
8Lord, there is none among the gods
that may with thee compare;
And like the works which thou hast done,
not any work is there.
9All nations whom thou mad'st shall come
and worship rev'rently
Before thy face; and they, O Lord,
thy name shall glorify.
10Because thou art exceeding great,
and works by thee are done
Which are to be admir'd; and thou
art God thyself alone.
11Teach me thy way, and in thy truth,
O Lord, then walk will I;
Unite my heart, that I thy name
may fear continually.
12O Lord my God, with all my heart
to thee I will give praise;
And I the glory will ascribe
unto thy name always:
13Because thy mercy toward me
in greatness doth excel;
And thou deliver'd hast my soul
out from the lowest hell.
14O God, the proud against me rise,
and vi'lent men have met,
That for my soul have sought; and thee
before them have not set.
15But thou art full of pity, Lord,
a God most gracious,
Long-suffering, and in thy truth
and mercy plenteous.
16O turn to me thy countenance,
and mercy on me have;
Thy servant strengthen, and the son
of thine own handmaid save.
17Shew me a sign for good, that they
which do me hate may see,
And be asham'd; because thou, Lord,
didst help and comfort me.

Tehillim 86

(A tefillah of Dovid)
1Incline Thine ear, Hashem; hear me; for I am ani (poor) and evyon (needy).
2Be shomer over my nefesh; for I am chasid; O Thou Elohai, save Thy eved that trusteth in Thee.
3Channeni (be merciful) unto me, Adonoi; for I cry unto Thee kol hayom.
4Samei'ach (rejoice) the nefesh of Thy eved; for unto Thee, Adonoi, do I lift up my nefesh.
5For Thou, Adonoi, art tov, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in chesed unto all them that call upon Thee.
6Give ear, Hashem, unto my tefillah (prayer); and attend to the voice of my techinnot (supplications).
7In my yom tzoros I will call upon Thee; for Thou wilt answer me.
8Ein kamocha vaelohim (there is none like Thee among the g-ds), Adonoi; nor are there any ma'asim like Thine.
9Kol Goyim whom Thou hast made shall come and worship before Thee, Adonoi; and shall glorify Shimcha.
10For Thou art gadol, and doest nifla'ot (wondrous things); Thou alone art Elohim.
11Teach me Thy Derech, Hashem; I will walk in Thy emes; Yachad (make undivided) levavi (my heart) to fear Thy Shem.
12I will praise Thee, Adonoi Elohai, with all my lev; and I will glorify Shimecha l'olam.
13For gadol is Thy chesed toward me; and Thou hast saved my nefesh from the lowermost Sheol.
14O Elohim, the zedim (arrogant ones, proud, insolent ones) are risen up against me, and the adat aritzim (band of violent men) seek my nefesh; and have not set Thee before them.
15But Thou, Adonoi, art El Rachum and Channun, slow to anger, and plenteous in chesed and emes.
16O turn unto me, and be gracious upon me; give Thy oz (strength) unto Thy eved, and save the ben amatecha (the son of Thy handmaid).
17Show me an ot (sign) for tovah; that they which hate me may see it, and be put to shame; because Thou, Hashem, hast helped me, and comforted me.
