Psalms 85

PSALM 85
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
To the chief Musician,
A Psalm for the sons of Korah.
1O Lord, thou hast been favourable
to thy beloved land:
Jacob's captivity thou hast
recall'd with mighty hand.
2Thou pardoned thy people hast
all their iniquities;
Thou all their trespasses and sins
hast cover'd from thine eyes.
3Thou took'st off all thine ire, and turn'dst
from thy wrath's furiousness.
4Turn us, God of our health, and cause
thy wrath 'gainst us to cease.
5Shall thy displeasure thus endure
against us without end?
Wilt thou to generations all
thine anger forth extend?
6That in thee may thy people joy,
wilt thou not us revive?
7Shew us thy mercy, Lord, to us
do thy salvation give.
8I'll hear what God the Lord will speak:
to his folk he'll speak peace,
And to his saints; but let them not
return to foolishness.
9To them that fear him surely near
is his salvation;
That glory in our land may have
her habitation.
10Truth met with mercy, righteousness
and peace kiss'd mutually:
11Truth springs from earth, and righteousness
looks down from heaven high.
12Yea, what is good the Lord shall give;
our land shall yield increase:
13Justice, to set us in his steps,
shall go before his face.

1For the leader. A psalm of the sons of Korach:
2Adonai, you have shown favor to your land;
you have restored the fortunes of Ya‘akov,
3taken away the guilt of your people,
pardoned all their sin, (Selah)
4withdrawn all your wrath,
turned from your fierce anger.
5Restore us, God of our salvation,
renounce your displeasure with us.
6Are you to stay angry with us forever?
Will your fury last through all generations?
7Won’t you revive us again,
so your people can rejoice in you?
8Show us your grace, Adonai;
grant us your salvation.
9I am listening. What will God, Adonai, say?
For he will speak peace to his people,
to his holy ones —
but only if they don’t relapse into folly.
10His salvation is near for those who fear him,
so that glory will be in our land.
11Grace and truth have met together;
justice and peace have kissed each other.
12Truth springs up from the earth,
and justice looks down from heaven.
13Adonai will also grant prosperity;
our land will yield its harvest.
14Justice will walk before him
and make his footsteps a path.
