Psalms 85

PSALM 85
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
To the chief Musician,
A Psalm for the sons of Korah.
1O Lord, thou hast been favourable
to thy beloved land:
Jacob's captivity thou hast
recall'd with mighty hand.
2Thou pardoned thy people hast
all their iniquities;
Thou all their trespasses and sins
hast cover'd from thine eyes.
3Thou took'st off all thine ire, and turn'dst
from thy wrath's furiousness.
4Turn us, God of our health, and cause
thy wrath 'gainst us to cease.
5Shall thy displeasure thus endure
against us without end?
Wilt thou to generations all
thine anger forth extend?
6That in thee may thy people joy,
wilt thou not us revive?
7Shew us thy mercy, Lord, to us
do thy salvation give.
8I'll hear what God the Lord will speak:
to his folk he'll speak peace,
And to his saints; but let them not
return to foolishness.
9To them that fear him surely near
is his salvation;
That glory in our land may have
her habitation.
10Truth met with mercy, righteousness
and peace kiss'd mutually:
11Truth springs from earth, and righteousness
looks down from heaven high.
12Yea, what is good the Lord shall give;
our land shall yield increase:
13Justice, to set us in his steps,
shall go before his face.

Psalms 85
85
To the director: A song of praise from the Korah family.
1Lord, you have been so kind to your land.
You have brought success again to the people of Jacob.
2You have forgiven the bad things your people did.
You have taken away the guilt of their sins! Selah
3You stopped being angry with them.
Your terrible anger has gone away.
4Our God and Savior, accept us again.
Don’t be angry with us anymore.
5Will you be angry with us forever?
Will your anger reach to our children and to their children?
6Please, give us new life!
Make your people happy to be yours.
7Lord, save us
and show us your love.
8I heard what the Lord God said.
He said there would be peace for his people and his loyal followers.
So they must not go back to their foolish way of living.
9He will soon save his faithful followers.
His glory will again live in our land.#85:9 His … land Or “We will soon live with honor in our land.”
10God’s love will come together with his faithful people.
Goodness and peace will greet them with a kiss.
11People on earth will be loyal to God,
and God in heaven will be good to them.#85:11 Literally, “Loyalty will sprout from the ground, and goodness will look down from the sky.”
12The Lord will give us many good things.
The ground will grow many good crops.
13Goodness will go before the Lord
and prepare the way for him.
