Psalms 76

PSALM 76
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
To the chief Musician on Neginoth,
A Psalm or Song of Asaph.
1In Judah's land God is well known,
his name's in Isr'el great:
2In Salem is his tabernacle,
in Sion is his seat.
3There arrows of the bow he brake,
the shield, the sword, the war.
4More glorious thou than hills of prey,
more excellent art far.
5Those that were stout of heart are spoil'd,
they slept their sleep outright;
And none of those their hands did find,
that were the men of might.
6When thy rebuke, O Jacob's God,
had forth against them past,
Their horses and their chariots both
were in a dead sleep cast.
7Thou, Lord, ev'n thou art he that should
be fear'd; and who is he
That may stand up before thy sight,
if once thou angry be?
8From heav'n thou judgment caus'd be heard;
the earth was still with fear,
9When God to judgment rose, to save
all meek on earth that were.
10Surely the very wrath of man
unto thy praise redounds:
Thou to the remnant of his wrath
wilt set restraining bounds.
11Vow to the Lord your God,
and pay: all ye that near him be,
Bring gifts and presents unto him;
for to be fear'd is he.
12By him the sp'rits shall be cut off
of those that princes are:
Unto the kings that are on earth
he fearful doth appear.

Psalms 76
76
1To him that excelleth on Neginoth. A Psalme or song committed to Asaph. God is knowen in Iudah: his Name is great in Israel. 2For in Shalem is his Tabernacle, and his dwelling in Zion. 3There brake he the arrowes of the bowe, the shielde and the sword and the battell. Selah. 4Thou art more bright and puissant, then the mountaines of pray. 5The stout hearted are spoyled: they haue slept their sleepe, and all the men of strength haue not found their hands. 6At thy rebuke, O God of Iaakob, both the chariot and horse are cast a sleepe. 7Thou, euen thou art to be feared: and who shall stand in thy sight, when thou art angrie! 8Thou didest cause thy iudgement to bee heard from heauen: therefore the earth feared and was still, 9When thou, O God, arose to iudgement, to helpe all the meeke of the earth. Selah. 10Surely the rage of man shall turne to thy praise: the remnant of the rage shalt thou restrayne. 11Vowe and performe vnto the Lord your God, all ye that be rounde about him: let them bring presents vnto him that ought to be feared. 12He shall cut off the spirit of princes: he is terrible to the Kings of the earth.
