PSALM 70
First Version
Meter: 6,6,8,6
To the chief Musician,
A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.
1Lord, haste me to deliver; with speed,
Lord, succor me.
2Let them that for my soul do seek
shamed and confounded be:
Turned back be they, and shamed,
that in my hurt delight.
3Turned back be they, Ha, ha! that say,
their shaming to requite.
4In thee let all be glad,
and joy that seek for thee:
Let them who thy salvation love
say still, God praisèd be.
5I poor and needy am; come, Lord,
and make no stay:
My help thou and deliv'rer art;
O Lord, make no delay.

Psalms 70
70
To the director: A song of David to help people remember.
1Please, God, rescue me!
Lord, hurry and help me!
2People are trying to kill me.
Please disappoint them.
Humiliate them!
They want to hurt me.
Make them run away in shame.
3May those who make fun of me
be too embarrassed to speak.
4But may those who come to you
be happy and rejoice.
May those who love being saved by you
always be able to say, “Praise God!”#70:4 Praise God Literally, “God is great” or “May God be magnified.”
5I am only a poor, helpless man.
God, please hurry to me.
You are my helper, the one who can save me.
Lord, don’t be too late!
