Psalms 62

PSALM 62
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun,
A Psalm of David.
1My soul with expectation
depends on God indeed;
My strength and my salvation doth
from him alone proceed.
2He only my salvation is,
and my strong rock is he:
He only is my sure defence;
much mov'd I shall not be.
3How long will ye against a man
plot mischief? ye shall all
Be slain; ye as a tott'ring fence shall be,
and bowing wall.
4They only plot to cast him down
from his excellency:
They joy in lies; with mouth they bless,
but they curse inwardly.
5My soul, wait thou with patience
upon thy God alone;
On him dependeth all my hope
and expectation.
6He only my salvation is,
and my strong rock is he;
He only is my sure defence:
I shall not moved be.
7In God my glory placed is,
and my salvation sure;
In God the rock is of my strength,
my refuge most secure.
8Ye people, place your confidence
in him continually;
Before him pour ye out your heart:
God is our refuge high.
9Surely mean men are vanity,
and great men are a lie;
In balance laid, they wholly are
more light than vanity.
10Trust ye not in oppression,
in robb'ry be not vain;
On wealth set not your hearts, when as
increased is your gain.
11God hath it spoken once to me,
yea, this I heard again,
That power to Almighty God
alone doth appertain.
12Yea, mercy also unto thee
belongs, O Lord, alone:
For thou according to his work
rewardest ev'ry one.

Psalms 62
62
(A psalm by David for Jeduthun, the music leader.)
God Is Powerful and Kind
1Only God can save me,
and I calmly wait for#62.1 calmly wait for: Or “am at peace with.” him.
2God alone is the mighty rock#62.2 mighty rock: See the note at 18.2.
that keeps me safe
and the fortress
where I am secure.
3I feel like a shaky fence
or a sagging wall.
How long will all of you
attack and assault me?
4You want to bring me down
from my place of honor.
You love to tell lies,
and when your words are kind,
hatred hides in your heart.
5Only God gives inward peace,
and I depend on him.
6God alone is the mighty rock
that keeps me safe,
and he is the fortress
where I feel secure.
7God saves me and honors me.
He is that mighty rock
where I find safety.
8Trust God, my friends,
and always tell him
each of your concerns.
God is our place of safety.
9We humans are only a breath;
none of us are truly great.
All of us together weigh less
than a puff of air.
10Don't trust in violence
or depend on dishonesty
or rely on great wealth.
11I heard God say two things:
“I am powerful,

Job 34.11; Jr 17.10; Mt 16.27; Ro 2.6; Rev 2.23. and I am very kind.”
The Lord rewards each of us
according to what we do.
