PSALM 6
First Version
Meter: 8,8,8,8
To the chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith,
A Psalm of David.
1Lord, in thy wrath rebuke me not;
Nor in thy hot rage chasten me.
2Lord, pity me, for I am weak:
Heal me, for my bones vexed be.
3My soul is also vexed sore;
But, Lord, how long stay wilt thou make?
4Return, O Lord, my soul set free;
O save me, for thy mercies' sake.
5Because those that deceased are
Of thee shall no remembrance have;
And who is he that will to thee
Give praises lying in the grave?
6I with my groaning weary am,
I also all the night my bed
Have caused for to swim; and I
With tears my couch have watered.
7Mine eye, consum'd with grief, grows old,
Because of all mine enemies.
8Hence from me, wicked workers all;
For God hath heard my weeping cries.
9God hath my supplication heard,
My pray'r received graciously
10Sham'd and sore vex'd be all my foes,
Sham'd and back turned suddenly.

Psalm 6
For the music leader. On stringed instruments. According to the eighth.#6.0 Perhaps a reference to an eight-string instrument; also in Ps 12 A psalm of David.
1Please, LORD,
don’t punish me when you are angry;
don’t discipline me when you are furious.
2Have mercy on me, LORD,
because I’m frail.
Heal me, LORD,
because my bones are shaking in terror!
3My whole body#6.3 Or soul; also in 6:4 is completely terrified!
But you, LORD! How long will this last?
4Come back to me, LORD! Deliver me!
Save me for the sake of your faithful love!
5No one is going to praise you
when they are dead.
Who gives you thanks
from the grave?#6.5 Heb Sheol
6I’m worn out from groaning.
Every night, I drench my bed with tears;
I soak my couch all the way through.
7My vision fails because of my grief;
it’s weak because of all my distress.
8Get away from me, all you evildoers,
because the LORD has heard me crying!
9The LORD has listened to my request.
The LORD accepts my prayer.
10All my enemies will be ashamed
and completely terrified;
they will be defeated
and ashamed instantly.
