Psalms 50

PSALM 50
First Version
Meter: 6,6,8,6
A Psalm of Asaph.
1The mighty God, the Lord,
hath spoken, and did call
The earth, from rising of the sun,
to where he hath his fall.
2From out of Sion hill,
which of excellency
And beauty the perfection is,
God shined gloriously.
3Our God shall surely come,
keep silence shall not he:
Before him fire shall waste, great storms
shall round about him be.
4Unto the heavens clear
he from above shall call,
And to the earth likewise, that he
may judge his people all.
5Together let my saints
unto me gather'd be,
Those that by sacrifice have made
a covenant with me.
6And then the heavens shall
his righteousness declare:
Because the Lord himself is he
by whom men judged are.
7My people Isr'el hear,
speak will I from on high,
Against thee I will testify;
God, ev'n thy God, am I.
8I for thy sacrifice
no blame will on thee lay,
Nor for burnt-off 'rings, which to me
thou offer'dst ev'ry day.
9I'll take no calf nor goats
from house or fold of thine:
10For beasts of forests, cattle all
on thousand hills, are mine.
11The fowls on mountains high
are all to me well known;
Wild beasts which in the fields do lie,
ev'n they are all mine own.
12Then, if I hungry were,
I would not tell it thee;
Because the world, and fulness all
thereof, belongs to me.
13Will I eat flesh of bulls?
or goats' blood drink will I?
14Thanks offer thou to God, and pay
thy vows to the most High.
15And call upon me when
in trouble thou shalt be;
I will deliver thee, and thou
my name shalt glorify.
16But to the wicked man
God saith, My laws and truth
Should'st thou declare? how dar'st thou take
my cov'nant in thy mouth?
17Sith thou instruction hat'st,
which should thy ways direct;
And sith my words behind thy back
thou cast'st, and dost reject.
18When thou a thief didst see,
with him thou didst consent;
And with the vile adulterers
partaker on thou went.
19Thou giv'st thy mouth to ill,
thy tongue deceit doth frame;
20Thou sitt'st, and 'gainst thy brother speak'st,
thy mother's son dost shame.
21Because I silence kept,
while thou these things hast wrought;
That I was altogether like
thyself, hath been thy thought;
Yet I will thee reprove,
and set before thine eyes,
In order ranked, thy misdeeds
and thine iniquities.
22Now, ye that God forget,
this carefully consider;
Lest I in pieces tear you all,
and none can you deliver.
23Whoso doth offer praise
me glorifies; and I
Will shew him God's salvation,
that orders right his way.

Psalms 50
50
One of Asaph’s songs.
1The Lord God Most Powerful has spoken.
He calls to everyone on earth, from where the sun rises to where it sets.
2God appeared from Zion, the city of perfect beauty.#50:2 God … beauty Or “God shining from Zion is absolutely beautiful.”
3Our God is coming and will not keep quiet.
Fire burns in front of him.
There is a great storm around him.
4He tells the sky and the earth to be witnesses
as he judges his people.
5He says, “My followers, gather around me.
Come, my worshipers, who made an agreement with me.”
6God is the judge,
and the skies tell how fair he is. Selah
7God says, “My people, listen to me!
People of Israel, I will show my evidence against you.
I am God, your God.
8The problem I have with you is not your sacrifices
or the burnt offerings you bring to me every day.
9Why would I want more bulls from your barns
or goats from your pens?
10I already own all the animals in the forest.
I own all the animals on a thousand hills.
11I know every bird in the mountains.
Everything that moves in the fields is mine.
12If I were hungry, I would not ask you for food.
I already own the world and everything in it.
13I don’t eat the meat of bulls or drink the blood of goats.”
14You made promises to God Most High, so give him what you promised.
Bring your sacrifices and thank offerings.
15God says, “Call me when trouble comes.
I will help you, and you will honor me.”
16But God says to the wicked,
“Stop quoting my laws!
Stop talking about my agreement!
17You hate for me to tell you what to do.
You ignore what I say.
18You see a thief and run to join him.
You jump into bed with those who commit adultery.
19You say evil things and tell lies.
20You sit around talking about people,
finding fault with your own brothers.
21When you did these things, I said nothing.
So you thought that I#50:21 that I Or “that the ‘I AM.’” was just like you.
But I will not be quiet any longer.
I will correct you and make clear what I have against you.
22You people who have forgotten God,
understand what I am telling you,
or I will tear you apart,
and no one will be able to save you!
23Whoever gives a thank offering shows me honor.
And whoever decides to live right will see my power to save.”
