Psalms 31

PSALM 31
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
To the chief Musician,
A Psalm of David.
1In thee, O Lord, I put my trust,
sham'd let me never be;
According to thy righteousness
do thou deliver me.
2Bow down thine ear to me, with speed
send me deliverance:
To save me, my strong rock be thou,
and my house of defence.
3Because thou art my rock, and thee
I for my fortress take;
Therefore do thou me lead and guide,
ev'n for thine own name's sake.
4And sith thou art my strength, therefore
pull me out of the net,
Which they in subtilty for me
so privily have set.
5Into thine hands I do commit
my sp'rit: for thou art he,
O thou, JEHOVAH, God of truth,
that hast redeemed me.
6Those that do lying vanities
regard, I have abhorr'd:
But as for me, my confidence
is fixed on the Lord.
7I'll in thy mercy gladly joy:
for thou my miseries
Consider'd hast; thou hast my soul
known in adversities:
8And thou hast not inclosed me
within the en'my's hand;
And by thee have my feet been made
in a large room to stand.
9O Lord, upon me mercy have,
for trouble is on me:
Mine eye, my belly, and my soul,
with grief consumed be.
10Because my life with grief is spent,
my years with sighs and groans:
My strength doth fail; and for my sin
consumed are my bones.
11I was a scorn to all my foes,
and to my friends a fear;
And specially reproach'd of those
that were my neighbours near:
When they me saw they from me fled.
12Ev'n so I am forgot,
As men are out of mind when dead:
I'm like a broken pot.
13For slanders I of many heard;
fear compass'd me, while they
Against me did consult, and plot
to take my life away.
14But as for me, O Lord, my trust
upon thee I did lay;
And I to thee, Thou art my God,
did confidently say.
15My times are wholly in thine hand:
do thou deliver me
From their hands that mine enemies
and persecutors be.
16Thy countenance to shine do thou
upon thy servant make:
Unto me give salvation,
for thy great mercies' sake.
17Let me not be asham'd, O Lord,
for on thee call'd I have:
Let wicked men be sham'd, let them
be silent in the grave.
18To silence put the lying lips,
that grievous things do say,
And hard reports, in pride and scorn,
on righteous men do lay.
19How great's the goodness thou for them
that fear thee keep'st in store,
And wrought'st for them that trust in thee
the sons of men before!
20In secret of thy presence thou
shalt hide them from man's pride:
From strife of tongues thou closely shalt,
as in a tent, them hide.
21All praise and thanks be to the Lord;
for he hath magnify'd
His wondrous love to me within
a city fortify'd.
22For from thine eyes cut off I am,
I in my haste had said;
My voice yet heard'st thou, when to thee
with cries my moan I made.
23O love the Lord, all ye his saints;
because the Lord doth guard
The faithful, and he plenteously
proud doers doth reward.
24Be of good courage, and he strength
unto your heart shall send,
All ye whose hope and confidence
doth on the Lord depend.

Ps 71:1–3
For the Music Director. A Psalm of David.
1In You, O Lord, do I seek refuge;
may I never be ashamed;
deliver me in Your righteousness.
2#Ps 63:1; 84:2 Incline Your ear to me;
deliver me speedily;
be my strong rock,
a strong fortress to save me.
3#Ps 79:10; 80:5 For You are my rock and my fortress;
for Your name’s sake lead me and guide me.
4#Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8 Lead me out of the net that they have hidden for me,
for You are my strength.
5#Ps 42:11; 43:5 Into Your hand I commit my spirit;
You have redeemed me, O Lord, God of truth.
6#2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8–9 I have hated those who regard worthless vanity,
but I trust in the Lord.
7#Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3 I will be glad and rejoice in Your lovingkindness,
for You have seen my trouble;
You have known my soul in adversities,
8#Job 35:10; Ps 63:6 and have not delivered me up into the hand of the enemy;
You have set my feet in a broad place.
9#Ps 38:6; 18:2 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in trouble;
my eye wastes away with grief,
yes, my soul and my body.
10#Ps 42:3; Joel 2:17 For my life is spent with grief,
and my years with sighing;
my strength fails because of my iniquity,
and my bones waste away.
11#Ps 42:5; 43:5 I became a reproach among all my enemies,
but especially among my neighbors,
and a dread to my acquaintances;
those who saw me outside fled fromme.
12I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind;
I am like a broken vessel.
13For I have heard the slander of many;
fear was on every side;
while they took counsel together againstme,
they planned to take away my life.
14But I trusted in You, O Lord;
I said, “You are my God.”
15My times are in Your hand;
deliver me from the hand of my enemies
and my pursuers.
16Make Your face to shine on Your servant;
save me by Your lovingkindness.
17Do not let me be ashamed, O Lord,
for I have called on You;
let the wicked be ashamed,
and let them be silent in the grave.
18Let the lying lips be put to silence,
who speak arrogantly
in pride and contempt against the righteous.
19Oh, how great is Your goodness,
which You have laid up for those who fear You,
which You have done for those
seeking refuge in You before people!
20You will hide them in the secret of Your presence
from conspirators;
You will keep them secretly in a shelter
from the strife of tongues.
21Blessed be the Lord,
for He has shown me His marvelous lovingkindness
in a fortified city.
22For I said in my haste,
“I am cut off from before Your eyes.”
Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications
when I cried to You.
23Oh, love the Lord, all you His saints,
for the Lord preserves the faithful,
but amply repays the one who acts in pride.
24Be strong, and He will strengthen your heart,
all you who wait for the Lord.
