Psalms 30

PSALM 30
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
A Psalm and Song at the dedication of the house of David.
1Lord, I will thee extol, for thou
hast lifted me on high,
And over me thou to rejoice
mad'st not mine enemy.
2O thou who art the Lord my God,
I in distress to thee,
With loud cries lifted up my voice,
and thou hast healed me.
3O Lord, my soul thou hast brought up,
and rescu'd from the grave;
That I to pit should not go down,
alive thou didst me save.
4O ye that are his holy ones,
sing praise unto the Lord;
And give unto him thanks, when ye
his holiness record.
5For but a moment lasts his wrath;
life in his favour lies:
Weeping may for a night endure,
at morn doth joy arise.
6In my prosperity I said,
that nothing shall me move.
7O Lord, thou hast my mountain made
to stand strong by thy love:
But when that thou,
O gracious God,
didst hide thy face from me,
Then quickly was my prosp'rous state
turn'd into misery.
8Wherefore unto the Lord my cry
I caused to ascend:
My humble supplication
I to the Lord did send.
9What profit is there in my blood,
when I go down to pit?
Shall unto thee the dust give praise?
thy truth declare shall it?
10Hear, Lord, have mercy; help me, Lord:
11Thou turned hast my sadness
To dancing; yea, my sackcloth loos'd,
and girded me with gladness;
12That sing thy praise my glory may,
and never silent be.
O Lord my God, for evermore
I will give thanks to thee.

A song of David for the dedication of the Temple.#Psalm 30 A song … Temple Or “A psalm. The song for the dedication of the house. Dedicated to David.”
1Lord, you lifted me out of my troubles.
You did not give my enemies a reason to laugh,
so I will praise you.
2Lord my God, I prayed to you,
and you healed me.
3Lord, you lifted me out of the grave.
I was falling into the place of death, but you saved my life.
4Praise the Lord, you who are loyal to him!
Praise his holy name#30:4 name Literally, “memory” or “memorial.”!
5His anger lasts for a little while,
but then his kindness brings life.
The night may be filled with tears,
but in the morning we can sing for joy!
6When I was safe and secure,
I thought nothing could hurt me.
7Yes, Lord, while you were kind to me,
I felt that nothing could defeat me.#30:7 I felt … defeat me Literally, “You placed me on the strong mountains.”
But when you turned away from me,
I was filled with fear.
8So, Lord, I turned and prayed to you.
I asked you, Lord, to show me mercy.
9I said, “What good is it if I die
and go down to the grave?
The dead just lie in the dirt.
They cannot praise you.
They cannot tell anyone how faithful you are.
10Lord, hear my prayer, and be kind to me.
Lord, help me!”
11You have changed my sorrow into dancing.
You have taken away my sackcloth
and clothed me with joy.
12You wanted me to praise you and not be silent.
Lord my God, I will praise you forever!
