Psalms 28

PSALM 28
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
A Psalm of David.
1To thee I'll cry, O Lord, my rock;
hold not thy peace to me;
Lest like those that to pit descend
I by thy silence be.
2The voice hear of my humble pray'rs,
when unto thee I cry;
When to thine holy oracle
I lift mine hands on high.
3With ill men draw me not away
that work iniquity;
That speak peace to their friends, while in
their hearts doth mischief lie.
4Give them according to their deeds
and ills endeavoured:
And as their handy-works deserve,
to them be rendered.
5God shall not build, but them destroy,
who would not understand
The Lord's own works, nor did regard
the doing of his hand.
6For ever blessed be the Lord,
for graciously he heard
The voice of my petitions,
and prayers did regard.
7The Lord's my strength and shield; my heart
upon him did rely;
And I am helped: hence my heart
doth joy exceedingly,
And with my song I will him praise.
8Their strength is God alone:
He also is the saving strength
of his anointed one.
9O thine own people do thou save,
bless thine inheritance;
Them also do thou feed, and them
for evermore advance.

PSALM 28
A Psalm of David.
1Unto thee, Jehovah, do I call; my rock, be not silent unto me, lest, if thou keep silence toward me, I become like them that go down into the pit. 2Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward the oracle of thy holiness. 3Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, who speak peace to their neighbours, and mischief is in their heart. 4Give them according to their doing, and according to the wickedness of their deeds; give them after the work of their hands, render to them their desert. 5For they regard not the deeds of Jehovah, nor the work of his hands: he will destroy them, and not build them up.
6Blessed be Jehovah, for he hath heard the voice of my supplications. 7Jehovah is my strength and my shield; my heart confided in him, and I was helped: therefore my heart exulteth, and with my song will I praise him. 8Jehovah is their strength; and he is the stronghold of salvation to his anointed one. 9Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance; and feed them, and lift them up for ever.
