Psalms 25

PSALM 25
First Version
Meter: 6,6,8,6
1To thee I lift my soul:
2O Lord, I trust in thee:
My God, let me not be asham'd,
nor foes triumph o'er me.
3Let none that wait on thee
be put to shame at all;
But those that without cause transgress,
let shame upon them fall.
4Shew me thy ways, O Lord;
thy paths, O teach thou me:
5And do thou lead me in thy truth,
therein my teacher be:
For thou art God that dost
to me salvation send,
And I upon thee all the day
expecting do attend.
6Thy tender mercies, Lord,
I pray thee to remember,
And loving-kindnesses; for they
have been of old for ever.
7My sins and faults of youth
do thou, O Lord, forget:
After thy mercy think on me,
and for thy goodness great.
8God good and upright is:
the way he'll sinners show.
9The meek in judgment he will guide,
and make his path to know.
10The whole paths of the Lord
are truth and mercy sure,
To those that do his cov'nant keep,
and testimonies pure.
11Now, for thine own name's sake,
O Lord, I thee entreat
To pardon mine iniquity;
for it is very great.
12What man is he that fears
the Lord, and doth him serve?
Him shall he teach the way that he
shall choose, and still observe.
13His soul shall dwell at ease;
and his posterity
Shall flourish still, and of the earth
inheritors shall be.
14With those that fear him is
the secret of the Lord;
The knowledge of his covenant
he will to them afford.
15Mine eyes upon the Lord
continually are set:
For he it is that shall bring forth
my feet out of the net.
16Turn unto me thy face,
and to me mercy show;
Because that I am desolate,
and am brought very low.
17My heart's griefs are increas'd:
me from distress relieve.
18See mine affliction and my pain,
and all my sins forgive.
19Consider thou my foes,
because they many are;
And it a cruel hatred is
which they against me bear.
20O do thou keep my soul,
do thou deliver me:
And let me never be asham'd,
because I trust in thee.
21Let uprightness and truth
keep me, who thee attend.
22Redemption, Lord, to Israel
from all his troubles send.

Psalm 25
This is a song that David wrote.
A prayer for help in trouble #25:1 This psalm is an alphabet psalm, like Psalms 9 and 10. Verse 1 begins with the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Verse 2 begins with the second letter and so on. There are 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet but this psalm misses out the letter q. Verse 22 is separate from the alphabet verses.
1 Lord, I offer myself to you.
2I trust in you, my God.
Please do not let me be ashamed.
Do not let my enemies laugh at me,
because they are stronger than me.
3Surely nobody who trusts in you
will become ashamed.
But those who like to deceive others
will become ashamed.
4 Lord, help me to understand your ways.
Teach me your good paths. #25:4 God's ways and his paths are the right way for us to live.
5Please be my guide and teach me your truth.
I trust you every day,
because you are the God who keeps me safe.
6 Lord, please be kind to me
and show me your faithful love.
From long ago you have always been like that.
7Do not punish me for the sins that I did long ago.
When I was young, I turned against you.
Please be kind to me, because of your faithful love!
8The Lord is good and he does what is right.
Because of that, he teaches sinners the right way to live.
9He is a guide for humble people,
so that they know what is right.
He teaches them to follow his way.
10The Lord is kind to his people
in everything that he does.
He shows his faithful love
to those who obey the rules of his covenant.
11 Lord, my sins are very many.
Please forgive me,
and show that your name is great.
12If people respect the Lord,
the Lord will show them the right way to live.
13People like that will enjoy a good life.
The land will belong to their descendants.
14The Lord is a guide for those who serve him.
He teaches them to obey his covenant.
15I always look to the Lord for help.
He will keep me safe from my enemies,
so that their traps do not catch me.
16Please turn towards me, Lord,
and be kind to me.
I feel very weak and lonely.
17I worry a lot about my troubles.
Please rescue me from them!
18Look at all my pain!
See how I am suffering!
Forgive me for all my sins.
19Look at all my enemies!
There are very many of them!
They hate me so much
that they want to hurt me.
20Keep my life safe and take care of me.
I have come to you to keep me safe,
so do not let me be ashamed.
21I trust you to save me.
Please take care of me,
because I am honest and good.
22God, save Israel's people from all their troubles!
