PSALM 24
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
1The earth belongs unto the Lord,
and all that it contains;
The world that is inhabited,
and all that there remains.
2For the foundations thereof
he on the seas did lay,
And he hath it established
upon the floods to stay.
3Who is the man that shall ascend
into the hill of God?
Or who within his holy place
shall have a firm abode?
4Whose hands are clean, whose heart is pure,
and unto vanity
Who hath not lifted up his soul,
nor sworn deceitfully.
5He from th' Eternal shall receive
the blessing him upon,
And righteousness, ev'n from the God
of his salvation.
6This is the generation
that after him enquire,
O Jacob, who do seek thy face
with their whole heart's desire.
7Ye gates, lift up your heads on high;
ye doors that last for aye,
Be lifted up, that so the King
of glory enter may.
8But who of glory is the King?
The mighty Lord is this;
Ev'n that same Lord, that great in might
and strong in battle is.
9Ye gates, lift up your heads; ye doors,
doors that do last for aye,
Be lifted up, that so the King
of glory enter may.
10But who is he that is the King
of glory? who is this?
The Lord of hosts, and none but he,
the King of glory is.

A Welcome for God into the Temple
A song of David.
1The earth and everything in it belong to the Lord.
The world and all its people belong to him.
2He built it on the waters.
He set it on the rivers.
3Who may go up on the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy Temple?
4Only those with clean hands and pure hearts.
They must not have worshiped idols.
They must not have made promises in the name of a false god.
5It is they who will receive a blessing from the Lord.
The God who saves them will declare them right.
6They try to follow God.
They look to the God of Jacob for help. Selah
7Open up, you gates.
Open wide, you aged doors.
Then the glorious king will come in.
8Who is this glorious king?
The Lord, strong and mighty.
The Lord, the powerful warrior.
9Open up, you gates.
Open wide, you aged doors.
Then the glorious king will come in.
10Who is this glorious king?
The Lord of heaven’s armies—
he is the glorious king. Selah
