Psalms 19

PSALM 19
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
To the chief Musician,
A Psalm of David.
1The heav'ns God's glory do declare,
the skies his hand-works preach:
2Day utters speech to day, and night
to night doth knowledge teach.
3There is no speech nor tongue to which
their voice doth not extend:
4Their line is gone through all the earth,
their words to the world's end.
In them he set the sun a tent;
5Who, bridegroom-like, forth goes
From's chamber, as a strong man doth
to run his race rejoice.
6From heav'n's end is his going forth,
circling to th' end again;
And there is nothing from his heat
that hidden doth remain.
7God's law is perfect, and converts
the soul in sin that lies:
God's testimony is most sure,
and makes the simple wise.
8The statutes of the Lord are right,
and do rejoice the heart:
The Lord's command is pure, and doth
light to the eyes impart.
9Unspotted is the fear of God,
and doth endure for ever:
The judgments of the Lord are true
and righteous altogether.
10They more than gold, yea, much fine gold,
to be desired are:
Than honey, honey from the comb
that droppeth, sweeter far.
11Moreover, they thy servant warn
how he his life should frame:
A great reward provided is
for them that keep the same.
12Who can his errors understand?
O cleanse thou me within
13From secret faults. Thy servant keep
from all presumptuous sin:
And do not suffer them to have
dominion over me:
Then, righteous and innocent,
I from much sin shall be.
14The words which from my mouth proceed,
the thoughts sent from my heart,
Accept, O Lord, for thou my strength
and my Redeemer art.

Psalm 19
This is a song that David wrote for the music leader.
God teaches us about himself
1The heavens show us how great God is.
The sky above shows his good work.
2Each day speaks about God,
until the next day continues the story.
Every night tells us how great God is.
3They do not use words to speak with.
Nobody hears their voice.
4But their message goes round all the earth.
All the world can understand what they say.
God has made a home for the sun in the sky.
5Each morning, the sun comes out,
like a happy man who has just married.
It comes out,
like a strong man who wants to run a race.
6The sun rises at one end of the heavens.
It travels in a big circle to the other end.
Nothing can hide from its heat. #19:6 Verses 1-6: The heavens show us how great God is.
7The law of the Lord is perfect.
It makes us strong again.
We can trust what the Lord teaches us.
He helps ordinary people to be wise.
8The Lord's rules are always right.
If we obey them, they make us really happy.
The Lord's commands are completely good.
They show us how to live in a good way.
9It is right for us to respect the Lord.
That will always help us.
The laws of the Lord are true.
They are right and fair.
10They are more valuable than gold,
even the best gold.
They are sweeter than the best honey.
11Your laws warn us to do what is right.
If we obey them, they are a great help to us. #19:11 Verses 7-11: God teaches us about himself in the Bible.
12Nobody realizes every time they do something wrong.
Please forgive me for the sins that I do not know about.
13 Lord, stop me doing things that I know are wrong.
Do not let those sins rule my life.
Then I will not be guilty.
I will not have turned against you in a bad way.
14 Lord, I want to make you happy.
I want my words and my thoughts to please you.
You are my strong Rock
and you are my Redeemer. #19:14 Verses 12-14 tell us how we should pray to God.
