PSALM 16
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
Michtam of David.
1Lord, keep me; for I trust in thee.
2To God thus was my speech,
Thou art my Lord; and unto thee
my goodness doth not reach:
3To saints on earth, to th' excellent,
where my delight's all plac'd.
4Their sorrows shall be multiply'd
to other gods that haste:
Of their drink-offerings of blood
I will no off 'ring make;
Yea, neither I their very names
up in my lips will take.
5God is of mine inheritance
and cup the portion;
The lot that fallen is to me
thou dost maintain alone.
6Unto me happily the lines
in pleasant places fell;
Yea, the inheritance I got
in beauty doth excel.
7I bless the Lord, because he doth
by counsel me conduct;
And in the seasons of the night
my reins do me instruct.
8Before me still the Lord I set:
sith it is so that he
Doth ever stand at my right hand,
I shall not moved be.
9Because of this my heart is glad,
and joy shall be exprest
Ev'n by my glory; and my flesh
in confidence shall rest.
10Because my soul in grave to dwell
shall not be left by thee;
Nor wilt thou give thine Holy One
corruption to see.
11Thou wilt me shew the path of life:
of joys there is full store
Before thy face; at thy right hand
are pleasures evermore.

Psalm 16
A miktam#16.0 Perhaps inscription of David.
1Protect me, God, because I take refuge in you.
2I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord.
Apart from you, I have nothing good.”
3Now as for the “holy ones” in the land,
the “magnificent ones” that I was so happy about;
4let their suffering increase because
they hurried after a different god.#16.4 Heb uncertain in 16:3-4; Heb lacks because and god in 16:4.
I won’t participate in their blood offerings;
I won’t let their names cross my lips.
5You, LORD, are my portion, my cup;
you control my destiny.
6The property lines have fallen beautifully for me;
yes, I have a lovely home.
7I will bless the LORD who advises me;
even at night I am instructed
in the depths of my mind.
8I always put the LORD in front of me;
I will not stumble because he is on my right side.
9That’s why my heart celebrates and my mood is joyous;
yes, my whole body will rest in safety
10because you won’t abandon my life#16.10 Or my soul to the grave;#16.10 Heb Sheol
you won’t let your faithful follower see the pit.
11You teach me the way of life.
In your presence is total celebration.
Beautiful things are always in your right hand.
