Psalms 145
145
PSALM 145
First Version
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
1I'll thee extol, my God, O King;
I'll bless thy name always.
2Thee will I bless each day, and will
thy name for ever praise.
3Great is the Lord, much to be prais'd;
his greatness search exceeds.
4Race unto race shall praise thy works,
and shew thy mighty deeds.
5I of thy glorious majesty
the honour will record;
I'll speak of all thy mighty works,
which wondrous are, O Lord.
6Men of thine acts the might shall show,
thine acts that dreadful are;
And I, thy glory to advance,
thy greatness will declare.
7The mem'ry of thy goodness great
they largely shall express;
With songs of praise they shall extol
thy perfect righteousness.
8The Lord is very gracious,
in him compassions flow;
In mercy he is very great,
and is to anger slow.
9The Lord JEHOVAH unto all
his goodness doth declare;
And over all his other works
his tender mercies are.
10Thee all thy works shall praise, O Lord,
and thee thy saints shall bless;
11They shall thy kingdom's glory show,
thy pow'r by speech express:
12To make the sons of men to know
his acts done mightily,
And of his kingdom th' excellent
and glorious majesty.
13Thy kingdom shall for ever stand,
thy reign through ages all.
14God raiseth all that are bow'd down,
upholdeth all that fall.
15The eyes of all things wait on thee,
the giver of all good;
And thou, in time convenient,
bestow'st on them their food:
16Thine hand thou open'st lib'rally,
and of thy bounty gives
Enough to satisfy the need
of ev'ry thing that lives.
17The Lord is just in all his ways,
holy in his works all.
18God's near to all that call on him,
in truth that on him call.
19He will accomplish the desire
of those that do him fear:
He also will deliver them,
and he their cry will hear.
20The Lord preserves all who him love,
that nought can them annoy:
But he all those that wicked are
will utterly destroy.
21My mouth the praises of the Lord
to publish cease shall never:
Let all flesh bless his holy name
for ever and for ever.

Psalms 145
145
A psalm of David. A song of praise.
1I will glorify you, my God and King! I will praise who you are forever and ever!
2I will praise you every day; I will praise your character forever and ever!
3The Lord is great and deserves much praise! His greatness cannot be measured!
4Let every generation tell the next all that you do, sharing the stories of your amazing miracles!
5They will speak#145:5. “They will speak”: Qumran text. of your majesty, your glorious splendor, and I will meditate on the wonderful things you have done.
6They will speak of the power of your awesome actions, and I will say how wonderful you are.
7They will explain to everyone how famous you are for your tremendous goodness, and joyfully celebrate how you always do what is right.
8The Lord is gracious and merciful, not easily angered, and full of trustworthy love.
9The Lord is good to everyone, and he shows mercy to all his created beings.
10All the created beings will thank you, Lord, and all who faithfully follow you will praise you.
11They will praise the glory of your kingdom, and talk about your power.
12They will explain to people your wonderful miracles, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13Your kingdom never ends, and your rule continues for all generations. What the Lord promises can always be trusted; he is merciful in all he does.#145:13. The second half of this verse is found in the Septuagint and the Syriac version, and also in the Qumran text. Since this poem is an acrostic, each verse beginning with successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet, these lines provide the missing letter (nun).
14The Lord helps up all those who fall down; he lifts up all those who are bowed down.
15All eyes are on you, waiting in hope, and you give food at just the right time.
16You give generously and satisfy the needs of every living thing.
17The Lord does right in everything—his actions are always trustworthy.
18The Lord is close to all who ask for his help, to all who ask in sincerity.
19He satisfies the needs of those who follow him. He hears their cries for help and he saves them.
20The Lord takes care of all those who love him, but he will destroy all those who are wicked.
21I will speak in praise of the Lord, and may everyone honor his holy character, forever and ever.
