Psalms 144

PSALM 144
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
A Psalm of David.
1O blessed ever be the Lord,
who is my strength and might,
Who doth instruct my hands to war,
my fingers teach to fight.
2My goodness, fortress, my high tow'r,
deliverer, and shield,
In whom I trust: who under me
my people makes to yield.
3Lord, what is man, that thou of him
dost so much knowledge take?
Or son of man, that thou of him
so great account dost make?
4Man is like vanity; his days,
as shadows, pass away.
5Lord, bow thy heav'ns, come down, touch thou
the hills, and smoke shall they.
6Cast forth thy lightning, scatter them;
thine arrows shoot, them rout.
7Thine hand send from above, me save;
from great depths draw me out;
And from the hand of children strange,
8Whose mouth speaks vanity;
And their right hand is a right hand
that works deceitfully.
9A new song I to thee will sing,
Lord, on a psaltery;
I on a ten-string'd instrument
will praises sing to thee.
10Ev'n he it is that unto kings
salvation doth send;
Who his own servant David doth
from hurtful sword defend.
11O free me from strange children's hand,
whose mouth speaks vanity;
And their right hand a right hand is
that works deceitfully.
12That, as the plants, our sons may be
in youth grown up that are;
Our daughters like to corner-stones,
carv'd like a palace fair.
13That to afford all kind of store
our garners may be fill'd;
That our sheep thousands, in our streets
ten thousands they may yield.
14That strong our oxen be for work,
that no in-breaking be,
Nor going out; and that our streets
may from complaints be free.
15Those people blessed are who be
in such a case as this;
Yea, blessed all those people are,
whose God JEHOVAH is.

Psalms 144

A Song to the Lord Who Preserves and Prospers His People
A Psalm of David.
1Blessed be the Lord my Rock,
#Ps. 54:5Who trains my hands for war,
And my fingers for battle—
2My lovingkindness and my fortress,
My high tower and my deliverer,
My shield and the One in whom I take refuge,
Who subdues my people under me.
3#2 Sam. 22:35; Ps. 18:34Lord, what is man, that You take knowledge of him?
Or the son of man, that You are mindful of him?
4#Job 7:17; Ps. 8:4; Heb. 2:6Man is like a breath;
#Ps. 39:11His days are like a passing shadow.
5#Job 8:9; 14:2; Ps. 102:11Bow down Your heavens, O Lord, and come down;
#Ps. 18:9; Is. 64:1Touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.
6#Ps. 104:32Flash forth lightning and scatter them;
Shoot out Your arrows and destroy them.
7Stretch out Your hand from above;
Rescue me and deliver me out of great waters,
From the hand of foreigners,
8Whose mouth #Ps. 18:13, 14speaks lying words,
And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
9I will #Ps. 12:2sing a new song to You, O God;
On a harp of ten strings I will sing praises to You,
10The One who gives salvation to kings,
#Ps. 33:2, 3; 40:3Who delivers David His servant
From the deadly sword.
11Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners,
Whose mouth speaks lying words,
And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood—
12That our sons may be #Ps. 18:50as plants grown up in their youth;
That our daughters may be as pillars,
Sculptured in palace style;
13That our barns may be full,
Supplying all kinds of produce;
That our sheep may bring forth thousands
And ten thousands in our fields;
14That our oxen may be well laden;
That there be no breaking in or going out;
That there be no outcry in our streets.
15#Ps. 128:3Happy are the people who are in such a state;
Happy are the people whose God is the Lord!
