Psalms 13

PSALM 13
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
To the chief Musician,
A Psalm of David.
1How long wilt thou forget me, Lord?
shall it for ever be?
O how long shall it be that thou
wilt hide thy face from me?
2How long take counsel in my soul,
still sad in heart, shall I?
How long exalted over me
Shall be mine enemy?
3O Lord my God, consider well,
and answer to me make:
Mine eyes enlighten, lest the sleep
of death me overtake:
4Lest that mine enemy should say,
Against him I prevail'd;
And those that trouble me rejoice,
when I am mov'd and fail'd.
5But I have all my confidence
thy mercy set upon;
My heart within me shall rejoice
in thy salvation.
6I will unto the Lord my God
sing praises cheerfully,
Because he hath his bounty shown
to me abundantly.

Psalms 13

A Plea for Deliverance
For the choir director. A Davidic psalm.
1Lord, how long will You forget me?
Forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me? # Jb 13:24; Ps 44:24; 89:46
2How long will I store up anxious concerns # Or up counsels within me,
agony in my mind every day?
How long will my enemy dominate me? # Ps 6:3; 38:6; 42:9
3Consider me and answer, Lord my God.
Restore brightness to my eyes; # Ezr 9:8; Ps 19:8; Pr 29:13
otherwise, I will sleep in death.
4My enemy will say, “I have triumphed over him,”
and my foes will rejoice because I am shaken. # Ps 89:42
5But I have trusted in Your faithful love; # Ps 52:8
my heart will rejoice in Your deliverance. # Ps 9:14
6I will sing to the Lord
because He has treated me generously. # Ps 119:17; 142:7
