Psalms 129

PSALM 129
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
1Oft did they vex me from my youth,
may Isr'el now declare;
2Oft did they vex me from my youth,
yet not victorious were.
3The plowers plow'd upon my back;
they long their furrows drew.
4The righteous Lord did cut the cords
of the ungodly crew.
5Let Sion's haters all be turn'd
back with confusion.
6As grass on houses' tops be they,
which fades ere it be grown:
7Whereof enough to fill his hand
the mower cannot find;
Nor can the man his bosom fill,
whose work is sheaves to bind.
8Neither say they who do go by,
God's blessing on you rest:
We in the name of God
the Lord do wish you to be blest.

Tehillim 129
129
(Shir HaMa'alot)
1Many a time have they afflicted me from my ne'ur, may Yisroel now say;
2Many a time have they afflicted me from my ne'ur (youth); yet they have not prevailed against me.
3The choreshim (plowers) plowed upon my back; they made long their furrows.
4 Hashem is tzaddik; He hath cut asunder the cords of the resha'im.
5Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Tziyon.#129:5 i.e, all anti-Semites
6Let them be as the khatzir (grass) upon the housetops, which withereth before it groweth up;
7With it the kotzer (reaper) filleth not his yad; nor he that gathereth sheaves, his bosom.
8Neither do they which go by say, Birkat Hashem be upon you; we bless you b'Shem Hashem.
