Psalms 122

PSALM 122
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
A Song of Ascents,
Of David.
1I joy'd when to the house of God,
Go up, they said to me.
2Jerusalem, within thy gates
our feet shall standing be.
3Jerus'lem, as a city, is
compactly built together:
4Unto that place the tribes go up,
the tribes of God go thither:
To Isr'el's testimony, there
to God's name thanks to pay.
5For thrones of judgment, ev'n the thrones
of David's house, there stay.
6Pray that Jerusalem may have
peace and felicity:
Let them that love thee and thy peace
have still prosperity.
7Therefore I wish that peace may still
within thy walls remain,
And ever may thy palaces
prosperity retain.
8Now, for my friends' and brethren's sakes,
Peace be in thee, I'll say.
9And for the house of God our Lord,
I'll seek thy good alway.

The Joy of Going to the House of the Lord
A Song of Ascents. Of David.
1I was glad when they said to me,
#Deut. 28:6; (Prov. 2:8; 3:6)“Let us go into the house of the Lord.”
2Our feet have been standing
Within your gates, O Jerusalem!
3Jerusalem is built
As a city that is #(Is. 2:3; Mic. 4:2); Zech. 8:21compact together,
4#2 Sam. 5:9Where the tribes go up,
The tribes of the Lord,
To #Ex. 23:17; Deut. 16:16the Testimony of Israel,
To give thanks to the name of the Lord.
5#Ex. 16:34For thrones are set there for judgment,
The thrones of the house of David.
6#Deut. 17:8; 2 Chr. 19:8Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you.
7Peace be within your walls,
Prosperity within your palaces.”
8For the sake of my brethren and companions,
I will now say, “Peace be within you.”
9Because of the house of the Lord our God
I will #Ps. 51:18seek your good.
