Psalms 116

PSALM 116
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
1I love the Lord, because my voice
and prayers he did hear.
2I, while I live, will call on him,
who bow'd to me his ear.
3Of death the cords and sorrows did
about me compass round;
The pains of hell took hold on me,
I grief and trouble found.
4Upon the name of God the Lord
then did I call, and say,
Deliver thou my soul, O Lord,
I do thee humbly pray.
5God merciful and righteous is,
yea, gracious is our Lord.
6God saves the meek: I was brought low,
he did me help afford.
7O thou my soul, do thou return
unto thy quiet rest;
For largely, lo, the Lord to thee
his bounty hath exprest.
8For my distressed soul from death
deliver'd was by thee:
Thou didst my mourning eyes from tears,
my feet from falling, free.
9I in the land of those that live
will walk the Lord before.
10I did believe, therefore I spake:
I was afflicted sore.
11I said, when I was in my haste,
that all men liars be.
12What shall I render to the Lord
for all his gifts to me?
13I'll of salvation take the cup,
on God's name will I call:
14I'll pay my vows now to the Lord
before his people all.
15Dear in God's sight is his saints' death.
16Thy servant, Lord, am I;
Thy servant sure, thine handmaid's son:
my bands thou didst untie.
17Thank-off 'rings I to thee will give,
and on God's name will call.
18I'll pay my vows now to the Lord
before his people all;
19Within the courts of God's own house,
within the midst of thee,
O city of Jerusalem.
Praise to the Lord give ye.

Thanksgiving for Deliverance from Death
1I #Ps. 18:1love the Lord, because He has heard
My voice and my supplications.
2Because He has inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.
3#Ps. 18:4–6The pains of death surrounded me,
And the pangs of Sheol laid hold of me;
I found trouble and sorrow.
4Then I called upon the name of the Lord:
“O Lord, I implore You, deliver my soul!”
5#(Ps. 103:8)Gracious is the Lord, and #(Ezra 9:15); Neh. 9:8; (Ps. 119:137; 145:17; Jer. 12:1; Dan. 9:14)righteous;
Yes, our God is merciful.
6The Lord preserves the simple;
I was brought low, and He saved me.
7Return to your #(Jer. 6:16; Matt. 11:29)rest, O my soul,
For #Ps. 13:6the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.
8#Ps. 56:13For You have delivered my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
And my feet from falling.
9I will walk before the Lord
#Ps. 27:13In the land of the living.
10#2 Cor. 4:13I believed, therefore I spoke,
“I am greatly afflicted.”
11#Ps. 31:22I said in my haste,
#Rom. 3:4“All men are liars.”
12What shall I render to the Lord
For all His benefits toward me?
13I will take up the cup of salvation,
And call upon the name of the Lord.
14#Ps. 116:18I will pay my vows to the Lord
Now in the presence of all His people.
15#Ps. 72:14; (Rev. 14:13)Precious in the sight of the Lord
Is the death of His saints.
16O Lord, truly #Ps. 119:125; 143:12I am Your servant;
I am Your servant, #Ps. 86:16the son of Your maidservant;
You have loosed my bonds.
17I will offer to You #Lev. 7:12; Ps. 50:14; 107:22the sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And will call upon the name of the Lord.
18I will pay my vows to the Lord
Now in the presence of all His people,
19In the #Ps. 96:8courts of the Lord’s house,
In the midst of you, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!
