Psalms 115

PSALM 115
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
1Not unto us, Lord, not to us,
but do thou glory take
Unto thy name, ev'n for thy truth,
and for thy mercy's sake.
2O wherefore should the heathen say,
Where is their God now gone?
3But our God in the heavens is,
what pleas'd him he hath done.
4Their idols silver are and gold,
work of men's hands they be.
5Mouths have they, but they do not speak;
and eyes, but do not see;
6Ears have they, but they do not hear;
noses, but savour not;
7Hands, feet, but handle not, nor walk;
nor speak they through their throat.
8Like them their makers are, and all
on them their trust that build.
9O Isr'el, trust thou in the Lord,
he is their help and shield.
10O Aaron's house, trust in the Lord,
their help and shield is he.
11Ye that fear God, trust in the Lord,
their help and shield he'll be.
12The Lord of us hath mindful been,
and he will bless us still:
He will the house of Isr'el bless,
bless Aaron's house he will.
13Both small and great, that fear the Lord,
he will them surely bless.
14The Lord will you, you and your seed,
aye more and more increase.
15O blessed are ye of the Lord,
who made the earth and heav'n.
16The heav'n, ev'n heav'ns, are God's, but he
earth to men's sons hath giv'n.
17The dead, nor who to silence go,
God's praise do not record.
18But henceforth we for ever will
bless God. Praise ye the Lord.

PSALM 115
1 Alleluia. Lord, not to us, Lord, not to us; but give thou glory to thy name. Of thy mercy, and of thy truth;
2lest any time heathen men say, Where is the God of them?
3Forsooth our God in heaven; did all things, whichever he would.
4The simulacra of heathen men be silver and gold; the works of men’s hands.
5They have mouths, and shall not speak; they have eyes, and shall not see.
6They have ears, and shall not hear; they have nostrils, and shall not smell.
7They have hands, and shall not grope; they have feet, and shall not go; they shall not cry in their throat.
8They that make those simulacra be made like those [or them]; and all that trust in them.
9The house of Israel hoped in the Lord; he is the helper of them, and the defender of them.
10The house of Aaron hoped in the Lord; he is the helper of them, and the defender of them.
11They that dread the Lord, hoped in the Lord; he is the helper of them, and the defender of them.
12The Lord was mindful of us; and blessed us. He blessed the house of Israel; he blessed the house of Aaron.
13He blessed all men that dread the Lord; both little and greater.
14The Lord add, either increase, on you; on you, and on your sons.
15Blessed be ye of the Lord; that made heaven and earth.
16Heaven of heaven is to the Lord/ Heaven of heavens to the Lord; but he gave the earth to the sons of men.
17Lord, not dead men shall praise thee; neither all men that go down into hell.
18But we that live, bless the Lord; from this time now, and till into the world.
