Psalms 111

PSALM 111
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
1Praise ye the Lord: with my whole heart
I will God's praise declare,
Where the assemblies of the just
and congregations are.
2The whole works of the Lord our God
are great above all measure,
Sought out they are of ev'ry one
that doth therein take pleasure.
3His work most honourable is,
most glorious and pure,
And his untainted righteousness
for ever doth endure.
4His works most wonderful he hath
made to be thought upon:
The Lord is gracious,
and he is full of compassion.
5He giveth meat unto all those
that truly do him fear;
And evermore his covenant
he in his mind will bear.
6He did the power of his works
unto his people show,
When he the heathen's heritage
upon them did bestow.
7His handy-works are truth and right;
all his commands are sure:
8And, done in truth and uprightness,
they evermore endure.
9He sent redemption to his folk;
his covenant for aye
He did command: holy his name
and rev'rend is alway.
10Wisdom's beginning is God's fear:
good understanding they
Have all that his commands fulfill:
his praise endures for aye.

Psalm 111
The Lord does great things #111:1 Psalm 111 is one of the alphabet psalms. That means that the first sentence begins with the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The second sentence begins with the second letter, and so on. We have not made it an alphabet poem in English.
1 Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
I will thank the Lord with all that I am,
when we, his people, meet together.
2The Lord does great things!
People who enjoy them,
think carefully about them.
3Everything that he does
shows that he is a very great king!
He will always do what is completely right.
4The Lord causes us to remember his miracles.
He is kind and he forgives people.
5He gives food to the people who serve him.
He always remembers the covenant
that he made with his people.
6He said that he would use his great power
to help his people.
He has given to them
the lands where other nations lived.
7He is always honest and fair
in the things that he does.
His rules help people to live well.
8They will continue to be right for all time.
People should trust those rules and obey them.
9He rescued his people
so that they became free.
He made his covenant with them
so that it would continue for ever.
His name is holy,
and people should respect him with fear.
10If you want to live in a wise way,
respect and obey the Lord. #111:10 See Proverbs 1:7; 9:10.
Everyone who lives in the way that he teaches
will understand what is right.
People should praise the Lord for ever!
