Isaiah 26
26
A Song of Praise to God
1At that time people will sing this song in Judah:
We have a strong city.
God protects us with its strong walls and defenses.
2Open the gates,
and the good people will enter.
They follow God’s good way of living.
3You, Lord, give true peace.
You give peace to those who depend on you.
You give peace to those who trust you.
4So, trust the Lord always.
Trust the Lord because he is our Rock forever.
5But the Lord will destroy the proud city.
And he will punish the people living there.
He will bring that high city down to the ground.
He throws it down into the dust.
6Then those who were hurt by the city will walk on its ruins.
Those who were made poor by the city will trample it under their feet.
7The path of life of the people who are right with God is level.
Lord, you make the way of life smooth for those people.
8But, Lord, we are waiting
for your way of justice.
Our souls want to remember
you and your name.
9My soul wants to be with you at night.
And my spirit wants to be with you at the dawn of every day.
When your way of justice comes to the land,
people of the world will learn the right way of living.
10An evil person will not learn to do good
even if you show him kindness.
He will continue doing evil, even if he lives in a good world.
He never sees the Lord’s greatness.
11Lord, you are ready to punish those people.
But they do not see that.
Lord, show them your strong love for your people.
Then the evil people will be ashamed.
Burn them in the fire
you have prepared for your enemies.
12Lord, all our success is because of what you have done.
So give us peace.
13Lord, our God, other masters besides you have ruled us.
But we honor only you.
14Those masters are now dead.
Their ghosts will not rise from death.
You decided to destroy them.
And you destroyed any memory of them.
15Lord, you multiplied the number of your people.
You multiplied them and brought honor to yourself.
You made the borders of the land wide.
16Lord, people remember you when they are in trouble.
They say quiet prayers to you when you punish them.
17Lord, when we are with you,
we are like a woman giving birth to a baby.
She cries and has pain from the birth.
18In the same way, we had pain.
We gave birth, but only to wind.
We don’t bring salvation to the land.
We don’t make new people for the world.
19Your people have died, but they will live again.
Their bodies will rise from death.
Dead people in the ground,
get up and be happy!
The dew covering you is like the dew of a new day.
The ground will give birth to the dead buried in it.
Judgment: Reward or Punishment
20My people, go into your rooms.
Shut your doors behind you.
Hide in your rooms for a short time.
Hide until God’s anger is finished.
21The Lord will leave his place.
He will punish the people of the world for their sins.
The earth will show the blood of the people who have been killed.
It will not cover the dead any longer.

Isaiah 26
26
God will Give his People Victory
1A day is coming when the people will sing this song in the land of Judah:
Our city is strong!
God himself defends its walls!
2Open the city gates
and let the faithful nation enter,
the nation whose people do what is right.
3You, LORD, give perfect peace
to those who keep their purpose firm
and put their trust in you.
4Trust in the LORD for ever;
he will always protect us.
5He has humbled those who were proud;
he destroyed the strong city they lived in,
and sent its walls crashing into the dust.
6Those who were oppressed walk over it now
and trample it under their feet.
7 LORD, you make the path smooth for good people;
the road they travel is level.
8We follow your will and put our hope in you;
you are all that we desire.
9At night I long for you with all my heart;
when you judge the earth and its people,
they will all learn what justice is.
10Even though you are kind to the wicked,
they never learn to do what is right.
Even here in a land of righteous people they still do wrong;
they refuse to recognize your greatness.

Heb 10.27
Your enemies do not know that you will punish them.
LORD, put them to shame and let them suffer;
let them suffer the punishment you have prepared.
Show them how much you love your people.
12You will give us prosperity, LORD;
everything that we achieve
is the result of what you do.#26.12 everything that… do; or you treat us according to what we do.
13 LORD our God, we have been ruled by others,
but you alone are our LORD.
14Now they are dead and will not live again;
their ghosts will not rise,
for you have punished them and destroyed them.
No one remembers them any more.
15 LORD, you have made our nation grow,
enlarging its territory on every side,
and this has brought you honour.
16You punished your people, LORD,
and in anguish they prayed to you.#26.16 Verse 16 in Hebrew is unclear.
17You, LORD, have made us cry out,
as a woman in labour cries out in pain.
18We were in pain and agony,
but we gave birth to nothing.
We have won no victory for our land;
we have accomplished nothing.#26.18 We have won… nothing; Hebrew unclear.

Dan 12.2
Those of our people who have died will live again!
Their bodies will come back to life.
All those sleeping in their graves
will wake up and sing for joy.
As the sparkling dew refreshes the earth,
so the LORD will revive those who have long been dead.
Judgement and Restoration
20Go into your houses, my people, and shut the door behind you. Hide yourselves for a little while until God's anger is over. 21The LORD is coming from his heavenly dwelling place to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The murders that were secretly committed on the earth will be revealed, and the ground will no longer hide those who have been killed.
