Yeshayah 63
63
1Who is this that cometh from Edom, with crimson begadim (garments) from Botzrah? This that is glorious in His apparel, striding in the greatness of His ko'ach? It is I, speaking in tzedakah, mighty to save.
2Why art Thou adom (red) in Thine apparel, and Thy garments like him that treadeth in the winepress?
3I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the amim (peoples, nations) there was none with Me; for I will trample them in Mine wrath,#63:3 i.e., Moshiachʼs work of wrath and trod them down in My fury; and the juice of their life blood splattered upon My garments, and I stained all My raiment.
4For Yom Nekam (Day of Vengeance) is in Mine lev, and My Shanat Geulah (Year of Redemption) is come.
5And I looked, and there was no ozer (helper); and I was appalled that there was no supporter; therefore Mine own zero'a wrought Salvation for Me; and My wrath, it upheld Me.
6And I will trample down the amim (nations) in Mine wrath, and make them drunk in My fury, and I will pour out the juice of their life blood down on the earth.
7I will rehearse the chasadim (lovingkindnesses) of Hashem, and the tehillot Hashem, according to all that Hashem hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the Bais Yisroel, which He hath bestowed on them according to His rachamim, and according to the multitude of His chasadim.
8For He said, Surely they are My people, banim that will not be sheker (false); so He became their Moshi'a (Savior).
9In all their tzoros He was afflicted, and the malach of His presence saved them; in His ahavah and in His mercy He redeemed them; and He lifted them up, and carried them kol y'mei olam.
10But they rebelled, and grieved His Ruach Hakodesh; therefore He turned against them as oyev (enemy), and He fought against them.
11Then His people remembered the y'mei olam (days of old), of Moshe. Where is He that brought them up out of the yam (sea) with the ro'im of His tzon? Where is He that put His Ruach Hakodesh in the midst of them?
12Who led them at the right hand of Moshe with His zero'a tiferet, dividing the mayim before them, to make Himself a Shem Olam?
13Who led them through the tehomot, like the sus (horse) in the midbar, that they should not stumble?
14As behemah goeth down into the valley, the Ruach Hashem caused them to rest; thus didst Thou lead Thy people, to make for Thee a Shem Tiferet.
15Look down from Shomayim, and behold from the habitation of Thy kodesh and of Thy Tiferet. Where is Thy kina (zeal) and Thy gevurah (might)? The yearning of Thy heart and of Thy rachamim are withheld toward me.
16Doubtless Thou art Avinu, though Avraham not have da'as of us, and Yisroel not acknowledge us; Thou, Hashem, art Avinu, Go'aleinu; Shemecha is from everlasting.
17 Hashem, why hast Thou made us to go astray from Thy drakhim, and hardened libenu (our hearts) from fearing Thee? Shuv (return) l'ma'an (for the sake of) Avadeicha (Thy servants), Shivtei Nachalatecha (the Tribes of Thine Inheritance).
18Am Kadshecha (People of Thy holiness, Thy Holy People) have possessed it but a little while; our adversaries have trampled down Thy Mikdash.
19We have become such as them over whom Thou hast never ruled, those who were not called by Shimecha (Thy Name).

Isaiah 63
63
The Lord’s Day of Vengeance
1Who is this coming from Edom#Ps 137:7; Is 34:5–6; Ezk 25:12–14; 35:1–15; Ob 1–14; Mal 1:2–5
in crimson-stained garments from Bozrah —
this one who is splendid in his apparel,
striding in his formidable#63:1 Syr, Vg read apparel, striding forward in might?
It is I, proclaiming vindication,#63:1 Or righteousness
powerful to save.
2Why are your clothes red,
and your garments like one who treads a winepress?#Rv 19:13–15
3I trampled the winepress alone,
and no one from the nations was with me.
I trampled them in my anger
and ground them underfoot in my fury;
their blood spattered my garments,
and all my clothes were stained.
4For I planned the day of vengeance,#Is 34:8; 61:2; Jr 46:10
and the year of my redemption#63:4 Or blood retribution came.
5I looked, but there was no one to help,#Is 59:16
and I was amazed that no one assisted;
so my arm accomplished victory for me,
and my wrath assisted me.
6I crushed nations in my anger;
I made them drunk with my wrath#Is 29:9; 51:17; Jr 51:39
and poured out their blood on the ground.#Rv 14:20
Remembrance of Grace
7I will make known the Lord’s faithful love
and the Lord’s praiseworthy acts,
because of all the Lord has done for us —
even the many good things
he has done for the house of Israel,
which he did for them based on his compassion
and the abundance of his faithful love.
8He said, “They are indeed my people,
children who will not be disloyal,”
and he became their Savior.
9In all their suffering, he suffered,#63:9 Alt Hb tradition reads did not suffer#Jdg 10:16
and the angel of his presence saved them.
He redeemed them
because of his love and compassion;#Dt 7:7–8
he lifted them up and carried them
all the days of the past.#Dt 1:31; 32:10–12; Is 46:3
10But they rebelled
and grieved his Holy Spirit.#Ps 51:11; 78:40; 106:33; Is 48:16; Ac 7:51; Eph 4:30
So he became their enemy
and fought against them.
11Then he#63:11 Or they remembered the days of the past,
the days of Moses and his people.
Where is he who brought them out of the sea
with the shepherds#63:11 LXX, Tg, Syr read shepherd of his flock?
Where is he who put his Holy Spirit among the flock?
12He made his glorious strength
available at the right hand of Moses,
divided the water before them#Ex 14:21; Ps 74:13
to make an eternal name for himself,
13and led them through the depths
like a horse in the wilderness,
so that they did not stumble.
14Like cattle that go down into the valley,
the Spirit of the Lord gave them#63:14 Lit him rest.
You led your people this way
to make a glorious name for yourself.
Israel’s Prayer
15Look down from heaven and see#Dt 26:15; Ps 80:14
from your lofty home — holy and beautiful.
Where is your zeal and your might?
Your yearning#63:15 Lit The agitation of your inward parts and your compassion
are withheld from me.
16Yet you are our Father,
even though Abraham does not know us
and Israel doesn’t recognize us.
You, Lord, are our Father;
your name is Our Redeemer#Is 41:14; 43:14
from Ancient Times.
17Why, Lord, do you make us stray from your ways?
You harden our hearts so we do not fear#63:17 Lit our heart from fearing you.#Is 6:10
Return, because of your servants,
the tribes of your heritage.
18Your holy people had a possession#63:18 Or Your people possessed your holy place
for a little while,
but our enemies have trampled down
your sanctuary.#Ps 74:3–7; Is 64:11
19We have become like those you never ruled,
like those who did not bear your name.#Dt 28:10; Is 43:7; 65:1
