Mattityahu (Mat) 1
1
1This is the genealogy of Yeshua the Messiah, son of David, son of Avraham:
2Avraham was the father of Yitz’chak,
Yitz’chak was the father of Ya‘akov,
Ya‘akov was the father of Y’hudah and his brothers,
3Y’hudah was the father of Peretz and Zerach (their mother was Tamar),
Peretz was the father of Hetzron,
Hetzron was the father of Ram,
4Ram was the father of ‘Amminadav,
‘Amminadav was the father of Nachshon,
Nachshon was the father of Salmon,
5Salmon was the father of Bo‘az (his mother was Rachav),
Bo‘az was the father of ‘Oved (his mother was Rut),
‘Oved was the father of Yishai,
6Yishai was the father of David the king.
David was the father of Shlomo (his mother was the wife of Uriyah),
7Shlomo was the father of Rechav‘am,
Rechav‘am was the father of Aviyah,
Aviyah was the father of Asa,
8Asa was the father of Y’hoshafat,
Y’hoshafat was the father of Yoram,
Yoram was the father of ‘Uziyahu,
9‘Uziyahu was the father of Yotam,
Yotam was the father of Achaz,
Achaz was the father of Hizkiyahu,
10Hizkiyahu was the father of M’nasheh,
M’nasheh was the father of Amon,
Amon was the father of Yoshiyahu,
11Yoshiyahu was the father of Y’khanyahu and his brothers
at the time of the Exile to Bavel.
12After the Babylonian Exile, Y’khanyahu was the father of Sh’altiel,
Sh’altiel was the father of Z’rubavel,
13Z’rubavel was the father of Avihud,
Avihud was the father of Elyakim,
Elyakim was the father of ‘Azur,
14‘Azur was the father of Tzadok,
Tzadok was the father of Yakhin,
Yakhin was the father of El’ichud,
15El’ichud was the father of El‘azar,
El‘azar was the father of Mattan,
Mattan was the father of Ya‘akov,
16Ya‘akov was the father of Yosef the husband of Miryam,
from whom was born the Yeshua who was called the Messiah.
17Thus there were fourteen generations from Avraham to David,
fourteen generations from David to the Babylonian Exile,
and fourteen generations from the Babylonian Exile to the Messiah.
18Here is how the birth of Yeshua the Messiah took place. When his mother Miryam was engaged to Yosef, before they were married, she was found to be pregnant from the Ruach HaKodesh. 19Her husband-to-be, Yosef, was a man who did what was right; so he made plans to break the engagement quietly, rather than put her to public shame. 20But while he was thinking about this, an angel of Adonai appeared to him in a dream and said, “Yosef, son of David, do not be afraid to take Miryam home with you as your wife; for what has been conceived in her is from the Ruach HaKodesh. 21She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Yeshua, [which means ‘Adonai saves,’] because he will save his people from their sins.”
22All this happened in order to fulfill what Adonai had said through the prophet,
23“The virgin will conceive and bear a son,
and they will call him ‘Immanu El.”
(The name means, “God is with us.”)
24When Yosef awoke he did what the angel of Adonai had told him to do — he took Miryam home to be his wife, 25but he did not have sexual relations with her until she had given birth to a son, and he named him Yeshua.

1This book is the record of Jesus the Messiah,#1:1. Or “Christ.” Christ is the Greek word for Messiah in Hebrew. the son of David, the son of Abraham, beginning with the family line:
2Abraham was the father#1:2. “Was the father of”: or “fathered.” of Isaac; and Isaac the father of Jacob; and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers; 3and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah (their mother was Tamar); and Perez the father of Hezron; and Hezron the father of Ram; 4and Ram the father of Amminadab; and Amminadab the father of Nahshon; and Nahshon the father of Salmon; 5and Salmon the father of Boaz (his mother was Rahab); and Boaz the father of Obed (his mother was Ruth); and Obed the father of Jesse; 6and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon (his mother had been Uriah's wife); 7and Solomon the father of Rehoboam; and Rehoboam the father of Abijah; and Abijah the father of Asa; 8and Asa the father of Jehoshaphat; and Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram; and Jehoram the father of Uzziah; 9and Uzziah the father of Jotham; and Jotham the father of Ahaz; and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah; 10and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh; and Manasseh the father of Amon; and Amon the father of Josiah; 11and Josiah the father of Jehoiachin and his brothers, at the time of the exile to Babylon. 12After the exile to Babylon, Jehoiachin was the father of Shealtiel; and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel; 13and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud; and Abiud the father of Eliakim; and Eliakim the father of Azor; 14and Azor the father of Zadok; and Zadok the father of Akim; and Akim the father of Eliud; 15and Eliud the father of Eleazar; and Eleazar the father of Matthan; and Matthan the father of Jacob;
16and Jacob was the father of Joseph, who was the husband of Mary, to whom Jesus was born, the one who is called the Messiah.
17So all the generations from Abraham to David add up to fourteen; from David to the Babylonian exile, fourteen; and from the Babylonian exile to the Messiah, fourteen.
18This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah happened. His mother, Mary, was engaged to Joseph, but before they slept together she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit. 19Joseph, her fiancé, was a good man and didn't want to shame her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement discreetly.
20While he was thinking about all of this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and told him, “Joseph, son of David, don't be afraid to marry Mary because she is pregnant by the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a son and you shall call him Jesus, for he will save people from their sins.” 22(Now this all happened to fulfill what the Lord said through the prophet: 23“A virgin will become pregnant, and will give birth to a son. They will call him Immanuel,” which means “God with us.”)#1:23. See Isaiah 7:14. 24Joseph woke up and did what the angel of the Lord told him to do. 25Joseph married Mary, but did not sleep with her until after she had given birth to a son, whom he named Jesus.
