Yesha 'yahu (Isa) 32
32
1There is coming a king who will reign justly
and princes who will rule uprightly.
2A man will be like a refuge from the wind,
like protection from a storm,
like streams of water on arid ground,
like a rock cliff shading a weary land.
3The eyes of those seeing will not be closed,
the ears of those hearing will pay close attention.
4The minds of the impetuous will learn to weigh carefully,
the tongues of the stutterers will speak readily and clearly.
5The mean person will no longer be called generous,
or the miserly said to be noble;
6for the mean person will speak meanness,
his heart planning evil, so that he can act godlessly,
spreading error concerning Adonai,
as he lets the hungry go on starving
and deprives the thirsty of drink.
7The mean person’s means are mean —
he devises wicked devices
to ruin the poor and needy with lies,
even when their cause is just.
8But the generous person devises generous things,
and his generosity will keep him standing.
9You women who are so complacent, listen to me!
Overconfident women, pay attention to my words!
10In a year and a few days more,
you overconfident women will shudder,
because the vintage will fail,
the harvest will not come.
11Tremble, you complacent women!
Shudder, you overconfident women!
Strip bare, wear sackcloth to cover yourselves.
12Beat your breasts in mourning
for the pleasant fields and fruitful vines,
13for the land of my people, producing thorns and briars,
for all the happy homes in the joyful city.
14For the palace will be abandoned,
the crowded city deserted,
‘Ofel and fortress wastelands forever,
a delight for wild donkeys and a pasture for flocks —
15till the Spirit is poured out on us from above,
and the desert becomes a fertile field,
with the fertile field regarded as a forest.
16Then justice will dwell in the desert,
and righteousness abide in the fertile field.
17The effect of righteousness will be peace;
the result of righteousness, quiet trust forever.
18My people will live in a peaceful place,
in secure neighborhoods and tranquil dwellings.
19Just as the forest will surely come down,
the city will surely be laid low.
20Happy are you who sow by all streams,
letting oxen and donkeys roam freely.

Justice Will Rule
1A king and his leaders
will rule with justice.
2They will be a place of safety
from stormy winds,
a stream in the desert,
and a rock that gives shade
from the heat of the sun.
3Then everyone who has eyes
will open them and see,
and those who have ears
will pay attention.
4All who are impatient
will take time to think;
everyone who stutters
will talk clearly.
5Fools will no longer
be highly respected,
and crooks won't be given
positions of honor.
6Fools talk foolishness.
They always make plans
to do sinful things,
to lie about the Lord,
to let the hungry starve,
and to keep water from those
who are thirsty.
7Cruel people tell lies—
they do evil things,
and make cruel plans
to destroy the poor and needy,
even when they beg
for justice.
8But helpful people
can always be trusted
to make helpful plans.
Punishment for the Women of Jerusalem
9Listen to what I say,
you women who are carefree
and careless!
10You may not have worries now,
but in about a year,
the grape harvest will fail,
and you will tremble.
11Shake and shudder,
you women without a care!
Strip off your clothes—
put on sackcloth.
12Slap your breasts in sorrow
because of what happened
to the fruitful fields
and vineyards,
13and to the happy homes
in Jerusalem.
The land of my people
is covered with thorns.
14The palace will be deserted,
the crowded city empty.
Fortresses and towers
will forever become
playgrounds for wild donkeys
and pastures for sheep.
God's Spirit Makes the Difference
15When the Spirit is given to us
from heaven,
deserts will become orchards
thick as fertile forests.
16Honesty and justice
will prosper there,
17and justice will produce
lasting peace and security.
18You, the Lord's people,
will live in peace,
calm and secure,
19even if hailstones flatten
forests and cities.
20You will have God's blessing,
as you plant your crops
beside streams,
while your donkeys and cattle
roam freely about.
