Yesha 'yahu (Isa) 25
25
1Adonai, you are my God.
I exalt you, I praise your name.
For you have accomplished marvels,
[fulfilled] ancient plans faithfully and truly.
2For you have made a city a heap of stones,
turned a fortified city into rubble,
made the foreigners’ fortress
a city that will never be rebuilt.
3Therefore mighty peoples glorify you,
the city of ruthless nations fears you.
4For you have been a refuge for the poor,
a refuge for the needy in distress,
shelter from the storm,
shade from the heat —
for the blast from the ruthless
was like a storm that could destroy a wall.
5Like desert heat, you subdue
the foreigners’ uproar;
like heat subdued by a cloud’s shadow,
the song of the ruthless dies away.
6On this mountain Adonai-Tzva’ot
will make for all peoples
a feast of rich food and superb wines,
delicious, rich food and superb, elegant wines.
7On this mountain he will destroy
the veil which covers the face of all peoples,
the veil enshrouding all the nations.
8He will swallow up death forever.
Adonai Elohim will wipe away
the tears from every face,
and he will remove from all the earth
the disgrace his people suffer.
For Adonai has spoken.
9On that day they will say,
“See! This is our God!
We waited for him to save us.
This is Adonai ; we put our hope in him.
We are full of joy, so glad he saved us!”
10For on this mountain
the hand of Adonai will rest.
But Mo’av will be trampled down where they are,
like straw trampled into a pile of manure.
11They will spread out their hands in Mo’av,
like a swimmer using his hands to tread water;
but their pride will be humbled and sunk,
no matter how clever the strokes of their hands.
12Your high, fortified walls he will level,
strike to the ground, lay in the dust.

Salvation and Judgment on That Day
1 Lord, you are my God;#Ex 15:2; Ps 118:28; Is 7:13; 44:17
I will exalt you. I will praise your name,
for you have accomplished wonders,
plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.
2For you have turned the city into a pile of rocks,#Is 17:1; 26:5
a fortified city, into ruins;
the fortress of barbarians#Col 3:11 is no longer a city;
it will never be rebuilt.
3Therefore, a strong people will honor you.
The cities of violent nations will fear you.
4For you have been a stronghold for the poor person,
a stronghold for the needy#Mt 11:29 in his distress,
a refuge from storms and a shade from heat.#Is 4:6; 32:2
When the breath of the violent
is like a storm against a wall,
5like heat in a dry land,
you will subdue the uproar of barbarians.
As the shade of a cloud cools the heat of the day,
so he will silence the song of the violent.
6On this mountain,#25:6 = Mount Zion#Is 2:2–4
the Lord of Armies will prepare for all the peoples a feast of choice meat,#Is 24:23; Rv 19:9
a feast with aged wine, prime cuts of choice meat,#25:6 Lit wine, fat full of marrow fine vintage wine.
7On this mountain
he will swallow up the burial shroud,
the shroud over all the peoples,
the sheet covering all the nations.#2Co 3:15–16; Eph 4:18
8When he has swallowed up death once and for all,#Hs 13:14; 1Co 15:54; Rv 21:4
the Lord God will wipe away the tears
from every face#Is 30:19; 35:10; 51:11; 65:19; Rv 7:17; 21:4
and remove his people’s disgrace#Ps 89:50–51; Is 51:7; 54:4; Mt 5:11; 1Pt 4:14
from the whole earth,
for the Lord has spoken.
9On that day it will be said,
“Look, this is our God;
we have waited for him, and he has saved us.
This is the Lord; we have waited for him.
Let’s rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”#Is 35:1–2,10; 66:10
10For the Lord’s power will rest on this mountain.
But Moab#Nm 24:17; Is 15:1 will be trampled in his place#25:10 Or trampled under him
as straw is trampled in a dung pile.
11He will spread out his arms in the middle of it,
as a swimmer spreads out his arms to swim.
His pride will be brought low,
along with the trickery of his hands.#Is 2:10–12,15–17; 16:6,14
12The high-walled fortress will be brought down,
thrown to the ground, to the dust.#Is 26:5–6
