Psalms 1
1
BOOK ONE
Psalms 1–41
1Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor stands in the path of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2#Ps 63:1; 84:2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and in His law he meditates day and night.
3#Ps 79:10; 80:5 He will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
that brings forth its fruit in its season;
its leaf will not wither,
and whatever he does will prosper.
4#Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8 The ungodly are not so,
but are like the chaff
which the wind drives away.
5#Ps 42:11; 43:5 Therefore the ungodly will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6#2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8–9 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the ungodly will perish.

True Happiness
1Happy are those
who reject the advice of evil people,
who do not follow the example of sinners
or join those who have no use for God.
2Instead, they find joy in obeying the Law of the LORD,
and they study it day and night.
3 #
Jer 17.8
They are like trees that grow beside a stream,
that bear fruit at the right time,
and whose leaves do not dry up.
They succeed in everything they do.
4But evil people are not like this at all;
they are like straw that the wind blows away.
5Sinners will be condemned by God
and kept apart from God's own people.
6The righteous are guided and protected by the LORD,
but the evil are on the way to their doom.
