The Resurrection
Mk 16:1–8; Lk 24:1–12; Jn 20:1–10
1#Mt 27:56; 27:61At the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.
2And then there was a great earthquake. For the angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door and sat on it. 3#Mk 9:3; Ac 1:10His countenance was like lightning, and his garments white as snow. 4#Rev 1:17The soldiers shook for fear of him and became like dead men.
5#Heb 1:14The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid. For I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. 6#Mt 16:21; 27:63He is not here. For He has risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7#Mt 26:32; 28:10Then go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead, and indeed, He is going before you to Galilee. There you will see Him. Listen, I have told you.”
8#Ps 2:11So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word. 9#Mt 14:33; 28:17As they went to tell His disciples, suddenly Jesus met them, saying, “Greetings!” They came and took hold of His feet and worshipped Him. 10#Jn 20:17; Ro 8:29Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go tell My brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.”
The Report of the Guard
11#Mt 27:65–66While they were going, indeed, some of the soldiers went into the city and described to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12When the chief priests were assembled with the elders and had taken counsel, they gave much money to the soldiers, 13saying, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were sleeping.’ 14#Mt 27:2If this comes to the governor’s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you secure.” 15#Mt 27:8So they took the money and did as they were instructed. And this saying has been commonly reported among the Jews to this day.
The Commissioning of the Disciples
Mk 16:14–18; Lk 24:36–49; Jn 20:19–23; Ac 1:6–8
16#Mt 28:7; 26:32Then the eleven disciples went away to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17#Mt 28:9When they saw Him, they worshipped Him. But some doubted. 18#Mt 11:27; Ro 14:9Then Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19#Mk 16:15–16; Ac 1:8Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20#Mt 18:20; Ac 2:42teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

S. Matthew 28
28
1Now late on the sabbath day, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. 2And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled away the stone, and sat upon it. 3His appearance was as lightning, and his raiment white as snow: 4and for fear of him the watchers did quake, and became as dead men. 5And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which hath been crucified. 6He is not here; for he is risen, even as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7And go quickly, and tell his disciples, He is risen from the dead; and lo, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. 8And they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring his disciples word. 9And behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and took hold of his feet, and worshipped him. 10Then saith Jesus unto them, Fear not: go tell my brethren that they depart into Galilee, and there shall they see me.
11Now while they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city, and told unto the chief priests all the things that were come to pass. 12And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers, 13saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. 14And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and rid you of care. 15So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying was spread abroad among the Jews, and continueth until this day.
16But the eleven disciples went into Galilee, unto the mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. 18And Jesus came to them and spake unto them, saying, All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth. 19Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost: 20teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.
