Isaiah 32
32
The Kingdom of Righteousness
1#Isa 9:6–7; Jer 33:15 See, a king shall reign in righteousness,
and princes shall rule justly.
2#Isa 25:4; 7:14 A man shall be as a hiding place from the wind,
and a shelter from the tempest,
as rivers of water in a dry place,
as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.
3#Isa 29:18 The eyes of those who see shall not be blinded,
and the ears of those who hear shall listen.
4#Isa 29:24 The heart also of the hasty shall understand knowledge,
and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.
5#Isa 5:20 The vile person shall no more be called noble,
nor the rogue be spoken of as generous;
6#1Sa 24:13; Isa 3:15 for the vile person will speak nonsense,
and his heart will work iniquity:
to practice hypocrisy
and to utter error against the Lord,
to keep the hungry unsatisfied
and to withhold drink from the thirsty.
7#Jer 5:26–28; Isa 5:23 The instruments also of the rogue are evil;
he devises wicked schemes
to destroy the poor with lying words,
even when the needy speaks right.
8But the noble devises noble things,
and by noble things he stands.
The Women of Jerusalem
9#Isa 28:23; 3:16 Rise up, you women who are at ease,
hear my voice;
you careless daughters,
give ear to my speech.
10#Isa 7:23 Within a year and a few days
you shall be troubled, you careless daughters;
for the vintage is ended
and the fruit gathering shall not come.
11Tremble, you women who are at ease;
be troubled, you careless daughters;
strip, undress,
and put sackcloth on your waist.
12Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields,
for the fruitful vine,
13#Isa 22:2; 7:23 for the land of my people
in which thorns and briers shall come up,
yes, for all the joyful houses
and for the jubilant city;
14#Isa 24:10; 24:12 because the palaces have been forsaken,
the populated city is forsaken.
The forts and towers shall be caves forever,
a joy of wild donkeys, a pasture of flocks,
15#Isa 29:17; 35:1–2 until the Spirit is poured on us from on high,
and the wilderness is a fruitful field,
and the fruitful field is counted as a forest.
The Peace of God’s Reign
16Then justice shall dwell in the wilderness,
and righteousness will abide in the fruitful field.
17#Ps 119:165; Ro 14:17 The work of righteousness shall be peace,
and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever.
18#Hos 2:18–23; Zec 2:5 My people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation
and in secure dwellings
and in quiet resting places;
19#Isa 28:17; 26:5 and it shall hail when the forest comes down,
and the city shall be utterly laid low.
20#Ecc 11:1; Isa 30:23–24 How blessed are you
who sow beside all waters,
who send out freely the ox and the donkey.

Yeshayah (Isaiah) 32
32
1See, a sovereign shall reign in righteousness, and rulers rule in right-ruling.
2And each one shall be as a hiding place from the wind, and a shelter from the downpour, as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.
3And the eyes of those who see are not dim, and the ears of those who hear listen.
4And the heart of the rash understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers hurries to speak plainly.
5A fool is no longer called noble, nor the scoundrel said to be respectable;
6for a fool speaks folly, and his heart works wickedness: to practise filthiness, and to speak against יהוה that which misleads, to starve the being of the hungry, and to withhold the drink from the thirsty.
7And the methods of the scoundrel are evil – he has devised wicked plans to destroy the poor with words of falsehood, even when the needy pleads for right-ruling.
8But the generous one devises what is generous, and by generous deeds he rises up.
9Rise up, you women who are at ease, hear my voice; rise up you complacent daughters, listen to my speech.
10In little more than a year you shall be troubled, you complacent women; for the grape harvest shall fail, the ingathering shall not come.
11Tremble, you women who are at ease; be troubled, you complacent ones; strip yourselves, make yourselves bare, and gird sackcloth on your waists.
12Lament upon the breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruit-bearing vine.
13Weeds and thornbushes come up over the ground of My people, indeed, over all the houses of joy, the city of revelry;
14for the palace is abandoned, the crowded city deserted. Hill and watchtower serve as caves forever, a joy of wild donkeys, a pasture of flocks;
15until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness shall become garden-land, and the garden-land be reckoned as a forest.
16Then right-ruling shall dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the garden-land.
17The work of righteousness shall be peace, and the service of righteousness be rest and safety forever.
18And My people shall dwell in a home of peace, and in safe dwellings, and in undisturbed resting places,
19even when hail shall fall, felling the forest, and the city be brought low in humiliation.
20Blessed are you who sow beside all waters, who send out the foot of the ox and the donkey.
