The Righteous Branch of Jesse
1#Isa 11:10; 4:2; 53:2 And there shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,
and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.
2#Isa 61:1; Mt 3:16; Isa 42:1 The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.
3#Jn 7:24 He shall delight in the fear of the Lord,
and he shall not judge by what his eyes see,
nor reprove by what his ears hear;
4#Mal 4:6; Job 4:9; Ps 2:9 but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,
and reprove with fairness for the meek of the earth.
He shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,
and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked.

and faithfulness the belt about his waist.

and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat,

7The cow and the bear shall graze;
their young ones shall lie down together;
and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
8The nursing child shall play by the hole of the asp,
and the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den.

in all My holy mountain,
for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord,
as the waters cover the sea.
10#Isa 11:1; Lk 2:32In that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the peoples. For him shall the nations seek. And his rest shall be glorious. 11#Ge 10:22; Mic 7:12In that day the Lord shall set His hand again the second time to recover the remnant of His people, who shall be left, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.
12#Isa 11:10; 56:8 He shall set up a banner for the nations,
and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel,
and gather together the dispersed of Judah
from the four corners of the earth.
13#Jer 3:18; Hos 1:11 The envy also of Ephraim shall depart,
and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off;
Ephraim shall not envy Judah,
and Judah shall not harass Ephraim.
14#Isa 25:10; Jer 49:28 But they shall swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines towards the west;
they shall plunder the sons of the east together;
they shall lay their hand on Edom and Moab,
and the children of Ammon shall obey them.
15#Isa 19:16; 7:20 The Lord shall utterly destroy
the tongue of the Egyptian sea,
and with His mighty wind He shall shake His hand
over the River,#Euphrates River.
and shall strike it into seven streams,
and make men walk over dry-shod.
16#Isa 19:23; Ex 14:26–29 There shall be a highway for the remnant of His people,
who will be left from Assyria,
as it was for Israel
when he came up from the land of Egypt.

The Root of Jesse
1Then a shoot will spring up from the stump of Jesse,
and a Branch from his roots will bear fruit.
2The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him—
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and strength,
the Spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord.
3And He will delight in the fear of the Lord.
He will not judge by what His eyes see,
and He will not decide by what His ears hear,
4but with righteousness He will judge the poor,
and with equity He will decide for the lowly of the earth.
He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth
and slay the wicked with the breath of His lips.
5Righteousness will be the belt around His hips,
and faithfulness the sash around His waist.
6The wolf will live with the lamb,
and the leopard will lie down with the goat;
the calf and young lion and fatling will be together,#11:6 Hebrew; LXX the young calf and bull and lion will feed together
and a little child will lead them.
7The cow will graze with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
8The infant will play by the cobra’s den,
and the toddler will reach into the viper’s nest.
9They will neither harm nor destroy
on all My holy mountain,
for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord
as the sea is full of water.
10On that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples. The nations will seek Him,#11:10 LXX On that day the Root of Jesse will appear, One who will arise to rule over the Gentiles; in Him the Gentiles will put their hope; cited in Romans 15:12. and His place of rest will be glorious. 11On that day the Lord will extend His hand a second time to recover the remnant of His people from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush,#11:11 That is, the upper Nile region from Elam, from Shinar,#11:11 That is, Babylonia from Hamath, and from the islands #11:11 Or coastlands of the sea.
12He will raise a banner for the nations
and gather the exiles of Israel;
He will collect the scattered of Judah
from the four corners of the earth.
13Then the jealousy of Ephraim #11:13 That is, the northern kingdom of Israel will depart,
and the adversaries #11:13 Or hostility of Judah will be cut off.
Ephraim will no longer envy Judah,
nor will Judah harass Ephraim.
14They will swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines to the west;
together they will plunder the sons of the east.
They will lay their hands on Edom and Moab,
and the Ammonites will be subject to them.
15The Lord will devote to destruction #11:15 Or will completely dry up
the gulf #11:15 Hebrew the tongue of the Sea of Egypt;
with a scorching wind He will sweep His hand
over the Euphrates.#11:15 Hebrew the River
He will split it into seven streams
for men to cross with dry sandals.
16There will be a highway for the remnant of His people
who remain from Assyria,
as there was for Israel
when they came up from the land of Egypt.
