Christ Born of Mary
18Now the #Matt. 12:46; Luke 1:27birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child #Is. 7:14; 49:5; Luke 1:35of the Holy Spirit. 19Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting #Deut. 24:1; John 8:4, 5to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. 20But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, #Luke 1:35for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21#(Is. 7:14; 9:6, 7); Luke 1:31; 2:21And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, #Luke 2:11; John 1:29; (Acts 4:12; 5:31; 13:23, 38; Rom. 5:18, 19; Col. 1:20–23)for He will save His people from their sins.”
22So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23#Is. 7:14“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
24Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, 25and did not know her till she had brought forth #Ex. 13:2; Luke 2:7, 21her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.

The Birth of Jesus the Messiah
18This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. 19Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement#1:19 Greek to divorce her. quietly.
20As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. 21And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus,#1:21 Jesus means “The Lord saves.” for he will save his people from their sins.”
22All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet:
23“Look! The virgin will conceive a child!
She will give birth to a son,
and they will call him Immanuel,#1:23 Isa 7:14; 8:8, 10 (Greek version).
which means ‘God is with us.’”
24When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife. 25But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus.
