The Great Day of God
1“For behold, #Ps. 21:9; (Nah. 1:5, 6; Mal. 3:2, 3; 2 Pet. 3:7)the day is coming,
Burning like an oven,
And all #Mal. 3:18the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be #Is. 5:24; Obad. 18stubble.
And the day which is coming shall burn them up,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“That will #Amos 2:9leave them neither root nor branch.
2But to you who #Mal. 3:16fear My name
The #Matt. 4:16; Luke 1:78; Acts 10:43; 2 Cor. 4:6; Eph. 5:14Sun of Righteousness shall arise
With healing in His wings;
And you shall go out
And grow fat like stall-fed calves.
3#Mic. 7:10You shall trample the wicked,
For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet
On the day that I do this,”
Says the Lord of hosts.
4“Remember the #Ex. 20:3Law of Moses, My servant,
Which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel,
With #Deut. 4:10the statutes and judgments.
5Behold, I will send you #(Matt. 11:14; 17:10–13; Mark 9:11–13; Luke 1:17); John 1:21Elijah the prophet
#Joel 2:31Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
6And he will turn
The hearts of the fathers to the children,
And the hearts of the children to their fathers,
Lest I come and #Zech. 14:12strike the earth with #Zech. 5:3a curse.”

Judgment and Covenant Renewal
# In Hebrew texts 4:1-6 is numbered 3:19-24. 1“Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire,” says the Lord Almighty. “Not a root or a branch will be left to them. 2But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves. 3Then you will trample on the wicked; they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I act,” says the Lord Almighty.
4“Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel.
5“See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes. 6He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.”
