Isaiah 63
63
The Lord in Judgment and Salvation
1Who is this who comes from Edom,
With dyed garments from Bozrah,
This One who is glorious in His apparel,
Traveling in the greatness of His strength?—
“I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”
2Why #(Rev. 19:13, 15)is Your apparel red,
And Your garments like one who treads in the winepress?
3“I have #Lam. 1:15; Rev. 14:19, 20; 19:15trodden the winepress alone,
And from the peoples no one was with Me.
For I have trodden them in My anger,
And trampled them in My fury;
Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments,
And I have stained all My robes.
4For the #Is. 34:8; 35:4; 61:2; Jer. 51:6day of vengeance is in My heart,
And the year of My redeemed has come.
5#Is. 41:28; 59:16I looked, but #(John 16:32)there was no one to help,
And I wondered
That there was no one to uphold;
Therefore My own #Ps. 98:1; Is. 59:16arm brought salvation for Me;
And My own fury, it sustained Me.
6I have trodden down the peoples in My anger,
Made them drunk in My fury,
And brought down their strength to the earth.”
God’s Mercy Remembered
7I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the Lord
And the praises of the Lord,
According to all that the Lord has bestowed on us,
And the great goodness toward the house of Israel,
Which He has bestowed on them according to His mercies,
According to the multitude of His lovingkindnesses.
8For He said, “Surely they are My people,
Children who will not lie.”
So He became their Savior.
9#Judg. 10:16In all their affliction He was afflicted,
#Ex. 14:19And the Angel of His Presence saved them;
#Deut. 7:7In His love and in His pity He redeemed them;
And #Ex. 19:4He bore them and carried them
All the days of old.
10But they #Ex. 15:24rebelled and #Num. 14:11; Ps. 78:40; Acts 7:51; 1 Cor. 10:1–11grieved His Holy Spirit;
#Ex. 23:21; Ps. 106:40So He turned Himself against them as an enemy,
And He fought against them.
11Then he #Ps. 106:44, 45remembered the days of old,
Moses and his people, saying:
“Where is He who #Ex. 14:30brought them up out of the sea
With the shepherd of His flock?
#Num. 11:17, 25, 29; Hag. 2:5Where is He who put His Holy Spirit within them,
12Who led them by the right hand of Moses,
#Ex. 15:6With His glorious arm,
#Ex. 14:21, 22; Josh. 3:16; Is. 11:15; 51:10Dividing the water before them
To make for Himself an everlasting name,
13#Ps. 106:9Who led them through the deep,
As a horse in the wilderness,
That they might not stumble?”
14As a beast goes down into the valley,
And the Spirit of the Lord causes him to rest,
So You lead Your people,
#2 Sam. 7:23To make Yourself a glorious name.
A Prayer of Penitence
15#Deut. 26:15; Ps. 80:14Look down from heaven,
And see #Ps. 33:14from Your habitation, holy and glorious.
Where are Your zeal and Your strength,
The yearning #Jer. 31:20; Hos. 11:8of Your heart and Your mercies toward me?
Are they restrained?
16#Deut. 32:6Doubtless You are our Father,
Though Abraham #Job 14:21was ignorant of us,
And Israel does not acknowledge us.
You, O Lord, are our Father;
Our Redeemer from Everlasting is Your name.
17O Lord, why have You #Is. 6:9, 10; John 12:40made us stray from Your ways,
And hardened our heart from Your fear?
Return for Your servants’ sake,
The tribes of Your inheritance.
18#Deut. 7:6Your holy people have possessed it but a little while;
#Ps. 74:3–7; Is. 64:11Our adversaries have trodden down Your sanctuary.
19We have become like those of old, over whom You never ruled,
Those who were never called by Your name.

Yeshayah (Isaiah) 63
63
1Who is this coming from Eḏom, with garments of glowing colours from Botsrah, who is robed in splendour, striding forward in the greatness of His strength? “It is I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”
2Why is there red on Your raiment, and Your garments like one who treads in the winepress?
3“I have trodden the winepress alone, and from the peoples no one was with Me. And I trod them down in My displeasure, and I trampled them in My wrath. Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, and I have defiled all My raiment.
4“For a day of vengeance is in My heart, and the year of My redeemed has come.
5“And I looked, but there was none helping, and I was astonished that there was none upholding. So My own arm saved for Me, and My wrath upheld Me.
6“And I trod down peoples in My displeasure, and made them drunk in My wrath, and brought down their strength to earth.”
7Let me recount the loving-commitments of יהוה and the praises of יהוה, according to all that יהוה has done for us, and the great goodness toward the house of Yisra’ĕl, which He has done for them according to His compassion, and according to His many loving-commitments.
8And He said, “They are My people, children who do not act falsely.” And He became their Saviour.
9In all their distress He was distressed, and the Messenger of His Presence saved them. In His love and in His compassion He redeemed them, and He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.
10But they rebelled and grieved His Set-apart Spirit, so He turned against them as an enemy, and He fought against them.
11Then He remembered the days of old, Mosheh, His people, “Where is He who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of His flock? Where is He who put His Set-apart Spirit within him,
12who led them by the right hand of Mosheh, with His comely arm, dividing the water before them to make for Himself an everlasting Name,
13who led them through the deep? Like a horse in the wilderness they did not stumble.”
14As a beast goes down into the valley, and the Spirit of יהוה causes him to rest, so You led Your people, to make Yourself a comely Name.
15Look down from the heavens, and see from Your set-apart and comely dwelling. Where are Your ardour and Your might, the stirring of Your inward parts and Your compassion toward me? Are they withheld?
16For You are our Father, though Aḇraham does not know us, and Yisra’ĕl does not recognise us. You, O יהוה, are our Father, our Redeemer – Your Name is from of old.
17O יהוה, why do You make us stray from Your ways, and harden our heart from Your fear? Turn back, for the sake of Your servants, the tribes of Your inheritance.
18For a little while Your set-apart people possessed it – our adversaries have trodden down Your set-apart place.#See Psa. 74; Psa. 79; Jer. 51:51; Lam. 1:10; Dan. 8:13; Dan. 11:31; Mat. 24:15
19We have become like those over whom You never ruled – Your Name is not called on them!
