The Gentiles Bless Zion
1Arise, #Eph. 5:14shine;
For your light has come!
And #Mal. 4:2the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
2For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,
And deep darkness the people;
But the Lord will arise over you,
And His glory will be seen upon you.
3The #Is. 49:6, 23; Rev. 21:24Gentiles shall come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.
4“Lift#Is. 49:18 up your eyes all around, and see:
They all gather together, #Is. 49:20–22they come to you;
Your sons shall come from afar,
And your daughters shall be nursed at your side.
5Then you shall see and become radiant,
And your heart shall swell with joy;
Because #(Rom. 11:25–27)the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you,
The wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you.
6The multitude of camels shall cover your land,
The dromedaries of Midian and #Gen. 25:4Ephah;
All those from #Gen. 25:3; Ps. 72:10Sheba shall come;
They shall bring #Is. 61:6; Matt. 2:11gold and incense,
And they shall proclaim the praises of the Lord.
7All the flocks of #Gen. 25:13Kedar shall be gathered together to you,
The rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you;
They shall ascend with #Is. 56:7acceptance on My altar,
And #Is. 60:13; Hag. 2:7, 9I will glorify the house of My glory.
8“Who are these who fly like a cloud,
And like doves to their roosts?
9#Ps. 72:10Surely the coastlands shall wait for Me;
And the ships of Tarshish will come first,
#(Gal. 4:26)To bring your sons from afar,
#Jer. 3:17Their silver and their gold with them,
To the name of the Lord your God,
And to the Holy One of Israel,
#Is. 55:5Because He has glorified you.
10“The#Is. 14:1, 2; 61:5; Zech. 6:15 sons of foreigners shall build up your walls,
#Is. 49:23; Rev. 21:24And their kings shall minister to you;
For #Is. 57:17in My wrath I struck you,
#Is. 54:7, 8But in My favor I have had mercy on you.
11Therefore your gates #Is. 26:2; 60:18; 62:10; Rev. 21:25, 26shall be open continually;
They shall not be shut day or night,
That men may bring to you the wealth of the Gentiles,
And their kings in procession.
12#Is. 14:2; Zech. 14:17; Matt. 21:44For the nation and kingdom which will not serve you shall perish,
And those nations shall be utterly ruined.
13“The#Is. 35:2 glory of Lebanon shall come to you,
The cypress, the pine, and the box tree together,
To beautify the place of My sanctuary;
And I will make #1 Chr. 28:2; Ps. 132:7the place of My feet glorious.
14Also the sons of those who afflicted you
Shall come #Is. 45:14bowing to you,
And all those who despised you shall #Is. 49:23; Rev. 3:9fall prostrate at the soles of your feet;
And they shall call you The City of the Lord,
#(Heb. 12:22; Rev. 14:1)Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
15“Whereas you have been forsaken and hated,
So that no one went through you,
I will make you an eternal excellence,
A joy of many generations.
16You shall drink the milk of the Gentiles,
#Is. 49:23And milk the breast of kings;
You shall know that #Is. 43:3I, the Lord, am your Savior
And your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
17“Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
Instead of iron I will bring silver,
Instead of wood, bronze,
And instead of stones, iron.
I will also make your officers peace,
And your magistrates righteousness.
18Violence shall no longer be heard in your land,
Neither wasting nor destruction within your borders;
But you shall call #Is. 26:1your walls Salvation,
And your gates Praise.
God the Glory of His People
19“The #Rev. 21:23; 22:5sun shall no longer be your light by day,
Nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you;
But the Lord will be to you an everlasting light,
And #Is. 41:16; 45:25; Zech. 2:5your God your glory.
20#Amos 8:9Your sun shall no longer go down,
Nor shall your moon withdraw itself;
For the Lord will be your everlasting light,
And the days of your mourning shall be ended.
21#Is. 52:1; Rev. 21:27Also your people shall all be righteous;
#Ps. 37:11; Matt. 5:5They shall inherit the land forever,
#Is. 61:3; (Matt. 15:13; John 15:2)The branch of My planting,
#Is. 29:23; (Eph. 2:10)The work of My hands,
That I may be glorified.
22#Matt. 13:31, 32A little one shall become a thousand,
And a small one a strong nation.
I, the Lord, will hasten it in its time.”

Isaiah 60

A Glorified Zion
1“Arise [from spiritual depression to a new life], shine [be radiant with the glory and brilliance of the Lord]; for your light has come,
And the glory and brilliance of the Lord has risen upon you.
2For in fact, darkness will cover the earth
And deep darkness will cover the peoples;
But the Lord will rise upon you [Jerusalem]
And His glory and brilliance will be seen on you.
3Nations will come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.
4“Lift up your eyes around you and see;
They all gather together, they come to you.
Your sons will come from far away,
And your daughters will be looked after at their side.
5Then you will see and be radiant,
And your heart will tremble [with joy] and rejoice
Because the abundant wealth of the seas will #Lit fall upon.be brought to you,
The wealth of the nations will come to you.
6A multitude of camels [from the eastern trading tribes] will cover you [Jerusalem],
The young camels of Midian and Ephah;
All those from Sheba [who once came to trade] will come
Bringing gold and frankincense
And proclaiming the praises of the Lord.
7All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered to you [as the eastern pastoral tribes join the trading tribes],
The rams of Nebaioth will serve you;
They will go up with acceptance [as sacrifices] on My altar,
And I will glorify the house of My honor and splendor.
8Who are these who fly like a cloud
And like doves to their windows?
9The islands and coastlands will confidently wait for Me;
And the ships of Tarshish will come first,
To bring your sons from far away,
Their silver and gold with them,
For the name of the Lord your God,
For the Holy One of Israel because He has glorified you.
10“Foreigners will build up your walls,
And their kings will serve you;
For in My [righteous] wrath I struck you,
But in My favor and grace I have had compassion on you.
11Your gates will be open continually;
They shall not be shut day or night,
So that people may bring to you the wealth of the nations—
With their kings led in procession.
12For the nation or the kingdom which will not serve you [Jerusalem] shall perish,
And the nations [that refuse to serve] shall be utterly ruined.
13The glory of Lebanon will come to you,
The #The specific kinds of trees are uncertain.cypress, the juniper, and the cedar together,
To beautify the place of My sanctuary;
And I will honor and make the place of My feet glorious.
14The sons of those who oppressed you will come bowing down to you [in submission],
And all those who despised you and treated you disrespectfully will bow down at the soles of your feet,
And they will call you the City of the Lord,
The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
15“Whereas you [Jerusalem] have been abandoned and hated
With no one passing through,
I will make you an object of pride forever,
A joy from generation to generation.
16You will suck the milk of the [Gentile] nations
And suck the breast (abundance) of kings;
Then you will recognize and know that I, the Lord, am your Savior
And your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
17Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
And instead of iron I will bring silver,
And instead of wood, bronze,
And instead of stones, iron.
And [instead of the tyranny of the present] I will appoint peace as your officers,
And righteousness your rulers.
18Violence will not be heard again in your land,
Nor devastation or destruction within your borders;
But you will call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise [to God].
19The sun will no longer be your light by day,
Nor shall the bright glow of the moon give light to you,
But the Lord will be an everlasting light for you;
And your God will be your glory and splendor.
20Your sun will no longer set,
Nor will your moon wane;
For the Lord will be your everlasting light,
And the days of your mourning will be over.
21Then all your people will be [uncompromisingly and consistently] righteous;
They will possess the land forever,
The branch of My planting,
The work of My hands,
That I may be glorified.
22The smallest one will become a thousand (a clan),
And the least one a mighty nation.
I, the Lord, will quicken it in its [appointed] time.”
