Isaiah 3
3
Judgment on Judah and Jerusalem
1For behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts,
#2 Kin. 25:3; Is. 5:13; Jer. 37:21Takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah
#Lev. 26:26The stock and the store,
The whole supply of bread and the whole supply of water;
2#2 Kin. 24:14; Is. 9:14, 15; Ezek. 17:12, 13The mighty man and the man of war,
The judge and the prophet,
And the diviner and the elder;
3The captain of fifty and the honorable man,
The counselor and the skillful artisan,
And the expert enchanter.
4“I will give #Eccl. 10:16children to be their princes,
And babes shall rule over them.
5The people will be oppressed,
Every one by another and every one by his neighbor;
The child will be insolent toward the elder,
And the base toward the honorable.”
6When a man takes hold of his brother
In the house of his father, saying,
“You have clothing;
You be our ruler,
And let these ruins be under your power,”
7In that day he will protest, saying,
“I cannot cure your ills,
For in my house is neither food nor clothing;
Do not make me a ruler of the people.”
8For #2 Chr. 36:16, 17; Mic. 3:12Jerusalem stumbled,
And Judah is fallen,
Because their tongue and their doings
Are against the Lord,
To provoke the eyes of His glory.
9The look on their countenance witnesses against them,
And they declare their sin as #Gen. 13:13; Is. 1:10–15Sodom;
They do not hide it.
Woe to their soul!
For they have brought evil upon themselves.
10“Say to the righteous #(Deut. 28:1–14; Eccl. 8:12; Is. 54:17)that it shall be well with them,
#Ps. 128:2For they shall eat the fruit of their doings.
11Woe to the wicked! #(Ps. 11:6; Eccl. 8:12, 13)It shall be ill with him,
For the reward of his hands shall be given him.
12As for My people, children are their oppressors,
And women rule over them.
O My people! #Is. 9:16Those who lead you cause you to err,
And destroy the way of your paths.”
Oppression and Luxury Condemned
13The Lord stands up #Is. 66:16; Hos. 4:1; Mic. 6:2to plead,
And stands to judge the people.
14The Lord will enter into judgment
With the elders of His people
And His princes:
“For you have eaten up #Matt. 21:33the vineyard;
The plunder of the poor is in your houses.
15What do you mean by #Mic. 3:2, 3crushing My people
And grinding the faces of the poor?”
Says the Lord God of hosts.
16Moreover the Lord says:
“Because the daughters of Zion are haughty,
And walk with outstretched necks
And wanton eyes,
Walking and mincing as they go,
Making a jingling with their feet,
17Therefore the Lord will strike with #Deut. 28:27a scab
The crown of the head of the daughters of Zion,
And the Lord will #Jer. 13:22uncover their secret parts.”
18In that day the Lord will take away the finery:
The jingling anklets, the scarves, and the #Judg. 8:21, 26crescents;
19The pendants, the bracelets, and the veils;
20The headdresses, the leg ornaments, and the headbands;
The perfume boxes, the charms,
21and the rings;
The nose jewels,
22the festal apparel, and the mantles;
The outer garments, the purses,
23and the mirrors;
The fine linen, the turbans, and the robes.
24And so it shall be:
Instead of a sweet smell there will be a stench;
Instead of a sash, a rope;
Instead of well-set hair, #Is. 22:12; Ezek. 27:31; Amos 8:10baldness;
Instead of a rich robe, a girding of sackcloth;
And branding instead of beauty.
25Your men shall fall by the sword,
And your mighty in the war.
26#Jer. 14:2; Lam. 1:4Her gates shall lament and mourn,
And she being desolate #Lam. 2:10shall sit on the ground.

Isaiah 3
3
1For, behold,#3:1 “Behold”, from “הִנֵּה”, means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection. the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah supply and support,
the whole supply of bread,
and the whole supply of water;
2the mighty man,
the man of war,
the judge,
the prophet,
the diviner,
the elder,
3the captain of fifty,
the honorable man,
the counselor,
the skilled craftsman,
and the clever enchanter.
4I will give boys to be their princes,
and children shall rule over them.
5The people will be oppressed,
everyone by another,
and everyone by his neighbor.
The child will behave himself proudly against the old man,
and the wicked against the honorable.
6Indeed a man shall take hold of his brother in the house of his father, saying,
“You have clothing, you be our ruler,
and let this ruin be under your hand.”
7In that day he will cry out, saying, “I will not be a healer;
for in my house is neither bread nor clothing.
You shall not make me ruler of the people.”
8For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen;
because their tongue and their doings are against Yahweh,
to provoke the eyes of his glory.
9The look of their faces testify against them.
They parade their sin like Sodom.
They don’t hide it.
Woe to their soul!
For they have brought disaster upon themselves.
10Tell the righteous that it will be well with them,
for they will eat the fruit of their deeds.
11Woe to the wicked!
Disaster is upon them,
for the deeds of their hands will be paid back to them.
12As for my people, children are their oppressors,
and women rule over them.
My people, those who lead you cause you to err,
and destroy the way of your paths.
13Yahweh stands up to contend,
and stands to judge the peoples.
14Yahweh will enter into judgment with the elders of his people
and their leaders:
“It is you who have eaten up the vineyard.
The plunder of the poor is in your houses.
15What do you mean that you crush my people,
and grind the face of the poor?” says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies.
16Moreover Yahweh said, “Because the daughters of Zion are arrogant,
and walk with outstretched necks and flirting eyes,
walking daintily as they go,
jingling ornaments on their feet;
17therefore the Lord brings sores on the crown of the head of the women of Zion,
and Yahweh will make their scalps bald.”
18In that day the Lord will take away the beauty of their anklets, the headbands, the crescent necklaces, 19the earrings, the bracelets, the veils, 20the headdresses, the ankle chains, the sashes, the perfume containers, the charms, 21the signet rings, the nose rings, 22the fine robes, the capes, the cloaks, the purses, 23the hand mirrors, the fine linen garments, the tiaras, and the shawls.
24It shall happen that instead of sweet spices, there shall be rottenness;
instead of a belt, a rope;
instead of well set hair, baldness;
instead of a robe, a wearing of sackcloth;
and branding instead of beauty.
25Your men shall fall by the sword,
and your mighty in the war.
26Her gates shall lament and mourn.
She shall be desolate and sit on the ground.
