Isaiah 27
27
1In that day the Lord with His severe sword, great and strong,
Will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent,
#Gen. 3:1; Ps. 74:13, 14; Rev. 12:9, 15Leviathan that twisted serpent;
And He will slay #Is. 51:9; Ezek. 29:3; 32:2the reptile that is in the sea.
The Restoration of Israel
2In that day #Is. 5:1sing to her,
#Ps. 80:8; Is. 5:7; Jer. 2:21“A vineyard of red wine!
3#1 Sam. 2:9; Ps. 121:4, 5; Is. 31:5; (John 10:28)I, the Lord, keep it,
I water it every moment;
Lest any hurt it,
I keep it night and day.
4Fury is not in Me.
Who would set #2 Sam. 23:6; Is. 9:18briers and thorns
Against Me in battle?
I would go through them,
I would burn them together.
5Or let him take hold #Is. 25:4of My strength,
That he may #Job 22:21; Is. 26:3, 12; (Rom. 5:1; 2 Cor. 5:20)make peace with Me;
And he shall make peace with Me.”
6Those who come He shall cause #Is. 37:31; Hos. 14:5, 6to take root in Jacob;
Israel shall blossom and bud,
And fill the face of the world with fruit.
7#Is. 10:12, 17; 30:30–33Has He struck Israel as He struck those who struck him?
Or has He been slain according to the slaughter of those who were slain by Him?
8#Job 23:6; Ps. 6:1; Jer. 10:24; 30:11; 46:28; (1 Cor. 10:13)In measure, by sending it away,
You contended with it.
#(Ps. 78:38)He removes it by His rough wind
In the day of the east wind.
9Therefore by this the iniquity of Jacob will be covered;
And this is all the fruit of taking away his sin:
When he makes all the stones of the altar
Like chalkstones that are beaten to dust,
Wooden images and incense altars shall not stand.
10Yet the fortified city will be #Is. 5:6, 17; 32:14; Jer. 26:18desolate,
The habitation forsaken and left like a wilderness;
There the calf will feed, and there it will lie down
And consume its branches.
11When its boughs are withered, they will be broken off;
The women come and set them on fire.
For #Deut. 32:28; Is. 1:3it is a people of no understanding;
Therefore He who made them will #Is. 9:17not have mercy on them,
And #Deut. 32:18; Is. 43:1, 7; 44:2, 21, 24He who formed them will show them no favor.
12And it shall come to pass in that day
That the Lord will thresh,
From the channel of the River to the Brook of Egypt;
And you will be #(Is. 11:11; 56:8)gathered one by one,
O you children of Israel.
13#Is. 2:11So it shall be in that day:
#Lev. 25:9; 1 Chr. 15:24; Matt. 24:31; Rev. 11:15The great trumpet will be blown;
They will come, who are about to perish in the land of Assyria,
And they who are outcasts in the land of #Is. 19:21, 22Egypt,
And shall #(Is. 2:3); Zech. 14:16; (Heb. 12:22)worship the Lord in the holy mount at Jerusalem.

Isaiah 27
27
1In that day the Lord with his hard and great and strong sword will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will slay the dragon that is in the sea.
2In that day:
“A pleasant vineyard, sing of it!
3I, the Lord, am its keeper;
every moment I water it.
Lest any one harm it,
I guard it night and day;
4I have no wrath.
Would that I had thorns and briers to battle!
I would set out against them,
I would burn them up together.
5Or let them lay hold of my protection,
let them make peace with me,
let them make peace with me.”
6In days to come#27.6 Heb Those to come Jacob shall take root,
Israel shall blossom and put forth shoots,
and fill the whole world with fruit.
7Has he smitten them as he smote those who smote them?
Or have they been slain as their slayers were slain?
8Measure by measure,#27.8 Compare Syr Vg Tg: The meaning of the Hebrew word is unknown by exile thou didst contend with them;
he removed them with his fierce blast in the day of the east wind.
9Therefore by this the guilt of Jacob will be expiated,
and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin:
when he makes all the stones of the altars
like chalkstones crushed to pieces,
no Asherim or incense altars will remain standing.
10For the fortified city is solitary,
a habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness;
there the calf grazes,
there he lies down, and strips its branches.
11When its boughs are dry, they are broken;
women come and make a fire of them.
For this is a people without discernment;
therefore he who made them will not have compassion on them,
he that formed them will show them no favor.
12In that day from the river Euphrates to the Brook of Egypt the Lord will thresh out the grain, and you will be gathered one by one, O people of Israel. 13#Mt 24.31; 1 Cor 15.52; 1 Thess 4.16. And in that day a great trumpet will be blown, and those who were lost in the land of Assyria and those who were driven out to the land of Egypt will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
