Isaiah 2
2
The Future House of God
1The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2Now #Mic. 4:1it shall come to pass #Gen. 49:1in the latter days
#Ps. 68:15That the mountain of the Lord’s house
Shall be established on the top of the mountains,
And shall be exalted above the hills;
And all nations shall flow to it.
3Many people shall come and say,
#Jer. 50:5; (Zech. 8:21–23; 14:16–21)“Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
He will teach us His ways,
And we shall walk in His paths.”
#Luke 24:47For out of Zion shall go forth the law,
And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4He shall judge between the nations,
And rebuke many people;
They shall beat their swords into plowshares,
And their spears into pruning hooks;
Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
Neither shall they learn war anymore.
The Day of the Lord
5O house of Jacob, come and let us #Eph. 5:8walk
In the light of the Lord.
6For You have forsaken Your people, the house of Jacob,
Because they are filled #Num. 23:7with eastern ways;
They are #Deut. 18:14soothsayers like the Philistines,
#Ps. 106:35And they are pleased with the children of foreigners.
7#Deut. 17:16; Is. 30:16; 31:1; Mic. 5:10Their land is also full of silver and gold,
And there is no end to their treasures;
Their land is also full of horses,
And there is no end to their chariots.
8#Is. 40:19, 20; Jer. 2:28Their land is also full of idols;
They worship the work of their own hands,
That which their own fingers have made.
9People bow down,
And each man humbles himself;
Therefore do not forgive them.
10#Is. 2:19, 21; Rev. 6:15, 16Enter into the rock, and hide in the dust,
From the terror of the Lord
And the glory of His majesty.
11The lofty looks of man shall be #Prov. 16:5; Is. 5:15humbled,
The haughtiness of men shall be bowed down,
And the Lord alone shall be exalted #Hos. 2:16in that day.
12For the day of the Lord of hosts
Shall come upon everything proud and lofty,
Upon everything lifted up—
And it shall be brought low—
13Upon all #Is. 14:8; Zech. 11:1, 2the cedars of Lebanon that are high and lifted up,
And upon all the oaks of Bashan;
14#Is. 30:25Upon all the high mountains,
And upon all the hills that are lifted up;
15Upon every high tower,
And upon every fortified wall;
16#1 Kin. 10:22; Is. 23:1, 14; 60:9Upon all the ships of Tarshish,
And upon all the beautiful sloops.
17The loftiness of man shall be bowed down,
And the haughtiness of men shall be brought low;
The Lord alone will be exalted in that day,
18But the idols He shall utterly abolish.
19They shall go into the #Hos. 10:8; (Rev. 9:6)holes of the rocks,
And into the caves of the earth,
#(2 Thess. 1:9)From the terror of the Lord
And the glory of His majesty,
When He arises #Ps. 18:7; Is. 2:21; 13:13; 24:1, 19, 20; Hag. 2:6, 7; Heb. 12:26to shake the earth mightily.
20In that day a man will cast away his idols of silver
And his idols of gold,
Which they made, each for himself to worship,
To the moles and bats,
21To go into the clefts of the rocks,
And into the crags of the rugged rocks,
From the terror of the Lord
And the glory of His majesty,
When He arises to shake the earth mightily.
22#Ps. 146:3; Jer. 17:5Sever yourselves from such a man,
Whose #Job 27:3breath is in his nostrils;
For of what account is he?

The Mountain of Yahweh
1The word that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:
2And it shall happen in the future of the days
the mountain of the house#Or “temple” of Yahweh shall be established;
it will be among the highest#Literally “head” of the mountains,
and it shall be raised from the hills.
All of the nations shall travel to him;
3many peoples shall come.
And they shall say,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of Yahweh,
to the house#Or “temple” of the God of Jacob,
and may he teach us part of his ways,
and let us walk in his paths.”
For instruction shall go out from Zion,
and the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem.
4He shall judge between the nations
and he shall arbitrate for many peoples.
They shall beat their swords into ploughshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
A nation shall not lift up a sword against a nation,
and they shall not learn war again.
The Day of Yahweh
5House of Jacob, come and let us walk in the light of Yahweh.
6For you have forsaken your people, house of Jacob,
because they are full#Possibly “of diviners” was part of the original text here from the east,
and of soothsayers like the Philistines,
and they make alliances#Literally “they clap hands” with the offspring of foreigners.
7And its land is filled with silver and gold,
and there is no end to its treasures;
and its land is filled with horses,
and there is no end to its chariots.
8Its land is filled with idols;
they bow down to the work of their#Hebrew “his” hands,
to what they made with their#Hebrew “his” fingers.
9So humanity is humbled;
everyone is humbled,
and you must not forgive them.
10Enter into the rock
and hide yourself in the dust
from the presence of the terror of Yahweh
and from the glory of his majesty.
11The haughty eyes#Literally “eyes of the haughtiness” of humanity will#The Hebrew is singular be brought low,
and the pride of everyone will be humbled,
and Yahweh alone will be exalted on that day.
12For there is a day for Yahweh of hosts
against all of the proud and the lofty
and against all that is lifted up and humble,#Or “it will be humbled”
13and against all the lofty and lifted up cedars of Lebanon,
and against all the large trees of Bashan,
14and against all the high mountains,
and against all the lofty hills,
15and against every kind of high tower,
and against every kind of fortified wall,
16and against all the ships of Tarshish,
and against all the ships of desire.
17And the haughtiness of the people shall be humbled,
and the pride of everyone shall be brought low,
and Yahweh alone will be exalted on that day.
18And the idols shall pass away entirely,
19and they will enter into the caves of the rocks
and into the holes of the ground
from the presence of the terror of Yahweh
and from the glory of his majesty
when he rises#Literally “in his rising” to terrify the earth.
20On that day humanity will throw away its idols of silver
and its idols of gold,
which they made for it to worship,
to the rodents#Or “moles” and to the bats—
21to enter into the crevices of the rocks
and into the clefts of the crags
from the presence of the terror of Yahweh
and from the glory of his majesty,
when he rises#Literally “in his rising” to terrify the earth.
22Turn away from humanity,
who has breath in its nostrils,#Hebrew “nostril”
for by#Or “in” what is it esteemed?
