The genealogy of Jesus the Messiah
1This is the genealogy#1:1 Or is an account of the origin of Jesus the Messiah#1:1 Or Jesus Christ. Messiah (Hebrew) and Christ (Greek) both mean Anointed One; also in verse 18. the son of David, the son of Abraham:
2Abraham was the father of Isaac,
Isaac the father of Jacob,
Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,
3Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar,
Perez the father of Hezron,
Hezron the father of Ram,
4Ram the father of Amminadab,
Amminadab the father of Nahshon,
Nahshon the father of Salmon,
5Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab,
Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth,
Obed the father of Jesse,
6and Jesse the father of King David.
David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,
7Solomon the father of Rehoboam,
Rehoboam the father of Abijah,
Abijah the father of Asa,
8Asa the father of Jehoshaphat,
Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram,
Jehoram the father of Uzziah,
9Uzziah the father of Jotham,
Jotham the father of Ahaz,
Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,
10Hezekiah the father of Manasseh,
Manasseh the father of Amon,
Amon the father of Josiah,
11and Josiah the father of Jeconiah#1:11 That is, Jehoiachin; also in verse 12 and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.
12After the exile to Babylon:
Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel,
Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,
13Zerubbabel the father of Abihud,
Abihud the father of Eliakim,
Eliakim the father of Azor,
14Azor the father of Zadok,
Zadok the father of Akim,
Akim the father of Elihud,
15Elihud the father of Eleazar,
Eleazar the father of Matthan,
Matthan the father of Jacob,
16and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.
17Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.
Joseph accepts Jesus as his son
18This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about#1:18 Or The origin of Jesus the Messiah was like this: his mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet#1:19 Or was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
20But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,#1:21 Jesus is the Greek form of Joshua, which means the Lord saves. because he will save his people from their sins.’
22All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23‘The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’#1:23 Isaiah 7:14 (which means ‘God with us’).
24When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

Mattithyahu (Matthew) 1
1
1The book of the genealogy of יהושע Messiah, Son of Dawiḏ, Son of Aḇraham:
2Aḇraham brought forth Yitsḥaq, and Yitsḥaq brought forth Ya‛aqoḇ, and Ya‛aqoḇ brought forth Yehuḏah and his brothers.
3And Yehuḏah brought forth Perets and Zeraḥ by Tamar, and Perets brought forth Ḥetsron, and Ḥetsron brought forth Ram.
4And Ram brought forth Amminaḏaḇ, and Amminaḏaḇ brought forth Naḥshon, and Naḥshon brought forth Salmon.
5And Salmon brought forth Bo‛az by Raḥaḇ, and Bo‛az brought forth Oḇĕḏ by Ruth, and Oḇĕḏ brought forth Yishai.
6And Yishai brought forth Dawiḏ the sovereign, and Dawiḏ the sovereign brought forth Shelomoh by Uriyah’s wife.
7And Shelomoh brought forth Reḥaḇ‛am,#His mother was an Ammorite. See also 1Kings 14:21; 1Kings 14:31 and Reḥaḇ‛am brought forth Aḇiyah, and Aḇiyah brought forth Asa.
8And Asa brought forth Yehoshaphat, and Yehoshaphat brought forth Yoram, and Yoram brought forth Uzziyah.
9And Uzziyah brought forth Yotham, and Yotham brought forth Aḥaz, and Aḥaz brought forth Ḥizqiyahu.
10And Ḥizqiyahu brought forth Menashsheh, and Menashsheh brought forth Amon, and Amon brought forth Yoshiyahu.
11And Yoshiyahu brought forth Yeḵonyah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Baḇel.
12And after the exile to Baḇel, Yeḵonyah brought forth She’alti’ĕl, and She’alti’ĕl brought forth Zerubbaḇel.
13And Zerubbaḇel brought forth Aḇihuḏ, and Aḇihuḏ brought forth [Aḇner and Aḇner brought forth]#[Aḇner and Aḇner brought forth] appears in the Du Tillit Hebrew text. Elyaqim, and Elyaqim brought forth Azor.
14And Azor brought forth Tsaḏoq, and Tsaḏoq brought forth Aqim, and Aqim brought forth Elihuḏ.
15And Elihuḏ brought forth El‛azar, and El‛azar brought forth Mattan, and Mattan brought forth Ya‛aqoḇ.
16And Ya‛aqoḇ brought forth Yosĕph the husband of Miryam, of whom was born יהושע who is called Messiah.
17So all the generations from Aḇraham to Dawiḏ were fourteen generations, and from Dawiḏ until the exile to Baḇel were fourteen generations, and from the exile to Baḇel until the Messiah were fourteen generations.
18But the birth of יהושע Messiah was as follows: After His mother Miryam was engaged to Yosĕph, before they came together, she was found to be pregnant from the Set-apart Spirit.
19And Yosĕph her husband, being righteous, and not wishing to make a show of her, had in mind to put her away secretly.
20But while he thought about this, see, a messenger of יהוה appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Yosĕph, son of Dawiḏ, do not be afraid to take Miryam as your wife, for that which is in her was brought forth from the Set-apart Spirit.
21“And she shall give birth to a Son, and you shall call His Name יהושע for He shall save#This is the meaning of the Hebrew of His Name. His people from their sins.
22And all this came to be in order to fill what was spoken by יהוה through the prophet, saying,
23“See, an ‘almah’#According to the Shem Toḇ Hebrew text and Isa. 7:14 “virgin / young woman”. See also Explanatory Note "Maiden". shall conceive, and she shall give birth to a Son, and they shall call His Name Immanu’ĕl,”#Isa. 7:14 which translated, means, “Ěl with us.”
24And Yosĕph, awaking from his sleep, did as the messenger of יהוה commanded him and took his wife,
25but knew her not until she gave birth to her Son, the first-born. And he called His Name יהושע.
